Mike,
I am not too knowlagable of the L&HR operations, but I have worked the north half of the line for many years. If you have any ROW / signal items I may be able to help. Unless I lost them to a flood I was in last year, I may still have a copy of the ROW / Val maps for Sparta to Warwick.

[Dont they have to bring the tracks up to all 40mph standards by 2009? Will the line revert back to NS at that time?] I will have to check a copy of the lease I have acess to later in the week, but If I remember correctly it is a 20 year lease with an option for 10 more. As Chris mentioned, the main...

I alreay have read the book and found it interesting. I have been around this railroad since I graduated HS (a long time ago), and find that a lot of the things mentioned in the book jive with talk within the rank and file in the mid 80's. (as to Charette's involvement in Poolville, the drugs, runni...

There is a photo of the Dispatchers desk on the Volunteer Railroaders Association's web site. During a motorcar trip on the CACV in 2006, the group had a tour of the Cooperstown HQ. The top computor screen is CP Forks, the bottom two are the Central New York Railroad. Port Jervis is on the right, CP...

No, that is not the case.
Plans are for double track and a signal system to be reinstalled from Hawthorne to Hackensack for the NJT DMU project.

The way these motorcar trips are insured is different than a passenger train carring the general public, where the group operating the trip has to provide the insurance; the operators / passengers of the motorcars are private individuals, seeking a place to operate their equipment. Each person pays f...

NYS&W people are part of this trip.
If they are useing a company owned hy-rail, it would have NJ plates. However, we do have alot of rental trucks these days, Dannella, Tartaglia, ect.

The signal system is being upgraded. With the romoval of the 2nd track between Deposit and Lansboro, the pole line was eliminated using Electracode EC-5, which sends the signal info thru the rails. Cp Lansboro was reinstalled, as the switch was removed by Conrail. Cp Gulf Summit was removed and a ne...

Matt- Chris is correct; NYS&W never had trackage rights west of Binghamton. All of the container trains since the beginning of the Sea Land traffic in 1985 where handed over to the D&H at Binghamton for forwarding to Buffalo. No matter which road's (NYSW or D&H) power was on the trains w...

The Port Jervice to Binghampton section has never been above 40 mph for the last 20 years due to the curves, not track consitions. Not much you can do with the curves. At 40 MPH on the teir, the road trains averaged 4 hrs BD to PJ, 2hrs PJ to PR, and 2hrs PR to Little Ferry for a total of 8 hrs. I d...

The Central New York Railroad is the same CNY that was part of the Delaware Otsego System (NYS&W) in the early 1970's. Incorperated in '73, they operated the 22 mile Ridgfield Springs Branch off the Utica / Binghamton Line. The CNY was still around on paper all these years, even thought NYSW too...

Actually, for their own safety, the train crews stay on the locomotive at Rte 17. The traffic does eventually stop when they lay on the horn long enough. As for Essex St., it has a track circuit that pre-empts the traffic light at the crossing to 4 way red.
