I believe NORAC has been done away with some time ago. Charlie You are correct with regards to CSX, but NORAC is still in use by a number of short lines and regional RR's. roadster: what is ptc you just mentioned? PTC = Positive Train Control. It is a system that (among other things) is designed to...

Portions of the West Shore still existed into the mid-late 70's between Oneida and Vernon, maybe points beyond. Not sure how long they remained in actual service, but I know I remember them being there while growing up.

The LV was long gone by 1946 (abandoned 1933, I think), and it crossed the NYC main east of downtown Canastota (off of the posted map, to the right). It was a north - south track that ended up in Camden. If you drive down Canal Road east from Canastota, across from the Canastota DPW, you can see one...

In the village of Minoa, there is a public footbridge that crosses the main line at the east entrance to the Dewitt yard. There two main tracks and the yard lead pass under the bridge. It is also where new CP 283(?) is located, which is used to bring intermodals on and off the main. I go there occas...

Is it true that the RSC-3 (?) outside the Children's Museum in Utica is destined for the Alco Heritage Museaum as well?

I would agree. I didn't miss the second building at all; just spent twice as much time in the single building. All the vendors I usually stop at were all there.

The other MLW Alco (1835) is now in service on the Adirondack Scenic. This photo (sorry, not the best pic) was taken in Thendara, where she was holding down the local assignment on 8/27.

Someone recently gave me a copy of an NRHS periodical bulletin and I could hardly believe it. It looked like the offspring of a photography and an architecture magazine, with a heavy does of philosophy in the family tree. Instead of examining how the railroads served the various grain elevators of ...

Could someone elaborate on what makes a museum/ chapter more or less attractive to young people? What are some of the attributes that make the R&GVRRM favorable to the younger membership?

I'm guessing the 1500 is going to the Grafton and Upton in Mass. as I recently read they added "F7A 1501" to the roster. Good afternoon, I live along the G&U RR and have been told to " watch the CSX/G&U RR junction " for the arrival of the ADIX 1500. Are there any detail...

The RS18u currently being prepared for paint will be in the same green and black scheme. And there goes any desire to photograph it. What happened to the whole "heritage railroad" stuff that was going on up there? Painting stuff for NYC or NYC-esque? I know, I know, the only folks who car...

John Taibi published a photo essay of the railroads in the city of Oneida. It mostly represents the O&W, but there are photos of the NY Central, the West Shore and NYS Electric Railway track and structures. It is available on the O&W RHS web site http://www.owrhs.org (Northern Division Bridg...

Now you know what they did with the proceeds from scrapping those FL-9s. Not really - the two RS-18's were purchased with funds from a newly established equipment trust fund that was created this past year. A good chunk of the money came from internal ARPS membership donations, and the balance came...

The railroad is actively looking to purchase additional power, and has launched a capital fund-raising campaign to support the endeavor. Details can be found at:

Have not heard anything about the M420TR.
