As far as some of those buses go, keep in mind too that the latest dual mode bus, the Neoplan/Skoda diesel-electric dual modes for the MBTA, aren't even in service. Only one has been delivered, and its still in testing. Also, they're being purchased by an authority that is still trying to get street...

Okay Ron -- I've been trying to get to my copy all day to tell you where it was -- but you beat me to it. All I can say is Watertown got it in their papers this morning!

From what I've read/heard, they apparently used some sort of detachable trolley pole and jumper cables to carry the current from the poles to the third rail shoes. Sounds like an OSHA nightmare, but these were different times. Keep in mind that this only happened late at night, with minimal traffic ...

Today's (Fri 8/27/04) Globe City & Region section says that they're going to re-start demolition tomorrow. I can't seem to find it linked online, however. It sounds liek they will be working around the clock on different stages of the construction in order to get back up to speed.

Yeah -- the gates are still there in the fence, inbetween the end of the Longfellow bridge proper and the tunnel portal on the Cambridge side. I have a copy of Streetcars of the Hub at home, with a map with non-revenue street trackage marked. I'll take a look tonight and see if I can get an idea. If...

That must ahve been it -- it just seemed louder than what I normally hear from CSXT on the other side of the river. The wind must have been just right.

According to NETransit, its still there, abandoned, but hasn't been used since 1952. Not sure, but I'd guess that parts of it were probably sealed off in all the station reconstructions that took place as the modern Blue Line was created.

This morning, about 7 AM, I heard a very loud locomotive horn in Watertown. It sounded much louder than what you might hear from the Fitchburg Line up in Belmont or West Cambridge. It was also clearly blowing a grade crossing signal. Unfortunately, I had to be at work this morning, so I didn't have ...

At the risk of saying something more, was a section of the platform canopies removed at North Station to facilitate demolition of the highway, or did the canopies never extend down to the building, due to the overhanging highway? The gap is now quite noticible when you look into the platform area fr...

Perhaps there isn't enough weight on the center truck to keep it on the tracks. Or, the problem might be the lack of flexability. A normal, two axle, four-wheel truck has a lot of freedom to move in several directions, as its only attached to the rigid carbody at one point. This gives each wheel th...

While I can't even begin to attempt to find the documentation for all of this at this hour of the morning, and without proper amounts of coffee, the Blue Line was a streetcar subway until the mid-1920's. Bowdoin-Maverick was converted to subway (albeit with cars that could fit the confines of the st...

I thought that the last major work that Uteca did was the GP16 program under SCL. Is Waycross still considered a full heavy repair shop, or is Huntingdon the only one at this point? I know in CSX's early days, there was an effort to make Waycross the "GE shop" and Huntingdon the "EMD ...

This morning I was around the Green Line a lot, and saw almost no Bredas. Driving from Celeveland Circle down Beacon St. I saw one set of T8's deadheading from Reservoir up to the B Line, and that was it. The C was all Boeings and T7's. I took the D Line in from Brookline Village on a Boeing train (...

A friend of mine said there was small fire somewhere in the station at Copley (seen on the local news Sat. night). I was having dinner in Back Bay Saturday night, and took the Green Line in there around 8 or so, and went back downtown on the Green Line (from Arlington) about 10:00, and everything wa...

Have any T8's moved back to the B line? I did see a two car train of T8's arriving at North Sta. on Saturday evening. Didn't get car numbers.
