In other words our line has the most railfans on it and the crews can tolerate or like railfans.

Amtrakfan, go way back and read the beginning of the thread - what started it was some guys who ran and hid as the train approached. It's stuff like that which arouses suspicion and causes reports. I doubt many railroaders are surprised or angry at somebody standing on public property, in plain sight, watching or photographing trains. The "problem" starts when people are where they should not be, or doing something they should not do.

What I was getting at was there's no way you could know that to be true Mr. Fan without you patrolling the right of way day and night. I'm sure the guys that had me wondering what the heck was up weren't from around here, as are some of the railfans where you live.

You can't just keep throwing in these "one liners" without thinking before you type and have anyone on here try to make anything of it.

Tell "HAIDAN" to keep his anti-American, geo-political BS, out of the forums. His is the worst kind of "political commentator", living "oppressed", under the tyrannical rule of the Queen, enjoying the benefits, and protections, of living next to the GREATEST, MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, then crying like a BBC/CNC mis-informed infant, about his twisted/slanted left leaning views on what happened to OUR country, citizens and towers. Go sell your socialist propaganda somewhere else, like your own miserable litte "second-world country", you sadly misguided little creature. AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE :-D :-D :-D Those fans are still allright with me, as long as they are not acting stupid/suspicious. We ride folks on every property I have worked on, if they are polite, safe, and "dressed for success". (no sneakers, flip-flops or shorts). See someone run, or dive into the bushes ? Call the cops/bulls, and let 'em do their jobs. My hands are full already, I've no time to play "cops", while performing my duties. Leave that to the conductor, or brakeman. Regards

Idiotic remarks like that is why the rest of the world has such a poor view of america

oh, and our inept president...

This is not a forum for political discussions such as this. No points of view will ever change because no one is "listening" to any other views besides the one they share. There is no real reason to keep bashing each other with personal perspectives.

Haiden, get a life!

Incidently, before anyone spouts off about socialist countries, corrupt leaders, second world garbage, maybe they should read INDEPENDANT media, not just USA TODAY. Ever seen Team America;World police? 3/4 of the world views the USA, as they are portrayed in that movie. But this isn't the place for political garbage is it? the whole point of the forum, was turning railfans in? Nothing about terrorism is involved, its just some shmucks who are too close to the tracks.

I'm sorry if I ofended any one and i must restate my point: I think that one needs to use there head before jump the gun on some railfans on private property. Terrorism is played up a lot more then it needs to be, and most workers are going to in danger of vandals having some fun rather then; the ever-so remote chance that they are dealing with real terrorism. i don't think terrorism is something to worry about.

Eh, I see railfans all the time, I don't care about them unless they are fouling my tracks. Truth is, most railroaders look a lot more suspicious them most railfans.

Hey All...You know, I check out all the rail forums and its always the same ole post 911 CRAP!!!. Railroads always seem too be so worried about picture takers, terrorists and bombers, man what a joke. What they need to be worried about is SECURING ALL SLIDING WINDOWS AND
DOORS OF THE LOCOMOTIVES IN CONSISTS. This is an on-going problem with railroads all across this country, and with all the bickering in the forums, its never mentioned. UH OHH. I never thought about that one....This is a very important issue I never hear mentioned. Mayors all over the U.S. are complaining about wanting RR's to start posting armed guards in their yards and on sidings to protect ,hazardous cargo, such as chlorine and LPG. These cities are conducting expensive terrorist drills on how to prepare for a real terrorist attacks. In the major city where I live, on every major line leading into town, (you no the drill) when the yard is full, inbounds are tied up with no crew until they can be brought into the yard. So, these trains sit there, with open cab windows, cab doors unlocked and standing wide open ( and yes alot of these unsecured locos in these consists are LEAD LOCOMOTIVES....not to mention what a rainstorm does to locomotive maintenance budgets annually. This would be the same thing as a Boeing 777 setting on the tarmac overnite with cockpit windows and doors wide open. Without a doubt, this would have to be a dream siteing for a potential terrorist. Here you have a train on a siding 5 miles from a major downtown metropolis, with tankers of chlorine, ammonia, amonium nitrate, and every other chemical you can think of, waiting for some screwball to put it into motion, pulling the throttle back into run 8. Only to jump off and watch the train travel in the darkness towards downtown, wide open to make a major score against america. Well, the average person doesn't have the knowledge of a locomotives operation?, Think again, you can freely read them front to back on the net, you can buy them on ebay. This wasn't written to start a flame war guys, just an opinion at a different angle. I travel all over my major city everyday, including, out in the country and all over america. I see unsecured trains all over the place, and I see it as only a matter of time before this disaster takes place. So, I think their is too much emphasis worrying about picture taking foamers, and not enough about this subject. If, you honestly thought about, it should make you cringe at the site of a lead locomotive, with open windows and doors open, with no crew and the first 20 cars behind the last locomotive being tankers.....probably not, cause you have never thought about it. I see this with all major railroads, as well with small ones. So, next time you leave the office and you are the last one there.......LOCK IT UP!!!.....You may be saving 1000's of lives......enough said, and don't be hating........L8ter :-D

What are you saying U.P.-Las Vegas? They would crash a train? We do enough of that ourselves without causing much of a stir. Tanks dont just blow up/leak because they get wrecked. Alot of guys think thats the case but its not true.

Sorry you missed it, so here goes.....Potential vandals have free access to trains, carrying hazardous cargo, to do with what they may, because of *some* lazy inept train service employees leaving locomotives unsecured for free access into the cabs.......as in unlocked sliding windows and unlocked cab doors standing wide open, on the mainline, with no crew and 20 tank cars of chlorine towards the head end. Sort of like a bank employee leaving for the day, with the back door open, and the vault unlocked.......hope this sheds some light on the point I was trying to make......don't be hating.....L8ter :-D
