I was over at the yard in Waterville today to send in my resume. I also got a good look at the deadline and as of 2/23/11 this is what I know is dead:
Gp7's 12, 15
GP9's 45, 54, 62
Gp35's 207, 212, 214 (these three were the only ones I saw)
Gp40's 300-303, 308, 318, 320, 342, 346
Gp40-2W 500, 509, 513
SD26 621, 643
SD45 681
SD39 690

It's probable that a few of the 40-series units will be brought back to life. The rest will probably be sold or scrapped. I haven't seen any official advertisements but that doesn't mean they're not for sale. If you see something you like, make an offer!

As the story goes, if a unit in the deadline is not "white lined",
(white line through the loco number on the cab), never say never,
that it might get to run again?

Any word on the two SW-1s? Of course, the chances of seeing
a photo of one of those running around the Waterville shop is
almost like winning the Powerball with the layout of the facility, etc.

Alas, they are a bit big for my basement layout.....

Last December, I had a conversation via e-mail with a PAR executive about the SD26's.

He said he was surprised that people were interested in those engines, and seemed to know a fair amount about them.

He said a restoration or museum group from down south had contacted him wanting to know if they could aquire one.

Maybe that's where 621 ended up. Who knows.

Possible, but if the unit had actually been shipped out, I imagine someone somewhere along the line would have seen it and said something, or posted photos, or both. An SD26 on non-Pan Am rails would've been huge news in the railfan community; the foamers would've been out in full force. Scrapping seems more likely, I'm afraid.

621 was scrapped about a month ago. 643 however is still sitting in the deadline, for how long though is anyones guess.
