To answer Steve's post- yes.
The second pic is exactly the track I've been looking for. Next question: does anyone have a pic of a GP38 on that siding???
Thanks for the pic. Easier to see when the leaves are gone, but you can still see the remnants of the ties. Someone must have a pic of a diesel idling down there or coming up the "hill".
I don't think the south layup track was eliminated until later. Ronkonkoma diesels used to use it.

Map in the Hicksville section. Still looking for info about the south layup track, and now the north station track. Pics would be really great!
Part II --- When did they add the 3rd platform track? According to the 1966 map, it wasn't there back then.
I think so. The siding actually joined east of where the platform began.
Does anyone have any pics of the Ronkonkoma diesels laying up on the former south layup track. Also, does anyone knw when the track was removed. You used to be able to see some remnants.
Did the CSX trash train that derailed originate from Long Island?
I just read on the LIRR website that the Cannonball is sold out for the remainder of the season. I was just wondering if the railroad is restricted to just 12 cars on the train or could they increase the size to 14 cars, with a total of 4 Reserved Cars. The old Cannonball with the Sunrise Fleet cars...
Anyone know how busy the newly reopened Montauk Sun. ticket office is?
Has anyone else seen the posting on the Facebook page that says the LIRR is conducting a survey to see about the potential for reopening Elmhurst?
How are they doing ticket sales at Montauk? Do they have a special "booth" or temporary desk?
