Third track to Yaphank? There's not even double track to Yaphank! There's not even double track east of Farmingdale!

Peconic station, I understand exactly what you are saying about Speonk....however, I'd take 'Speonk-like" serivce anyday on the Mainline to Riverhead rather than what they offer!

There was a trip from Jamaica to Dover Plains in 1994 using LIRR MP15's and an FA power pack... That photo at Long Island City is a photo from the Dover Plains trip. I was on that trip, it also stopped at Fresh Pond Yard. 614 was the FA1 that was on the other end. I believe it was October 1993 howe...

The RR owns land in Yaphank I believe that is where a yard is planned. Maybe this is the first step...Maybe they are just improving the station area..I dont know. You dont have to be stuck in traffic, the RR provides a train out of Greenport at 530 Am, connection gets to NY at 817. No need to drive. When people start taking that train, then more will be added. No need to waste more equipment when the train that runs is empty. Simple equation guys, if the tra...

I am not being glib, I would just really like to know one thing. The Railroad in fact DOES provide a rush hour train from Greenport in the morning. It leaves Greenport at 530 AM, , its connection at Ronkonkoma gets to Ny at 819. It also runs an east bound rush hour train leaving NY at 542PM, , that...

Granted, it's often not that always that easy to photograph out the front of even the trains with normal front windows, as between the dirt, and worse, the scratches, it's not always easy to find a small place to place the lens....

Yes, you can see straight ahead on the R-68/142/143/160, but the railfan view is distorted. It is like you are drunk. Light is repeated multiple times due to the polarization, I think. It is better than nothing, but pretty worthless underground and marginally ok above ground. Not to mention you can...

As long as you take your trash with you, they don't care. My friends and I just a few weeks back "tailgated" on the LIRR on our way to a Mets game. We had plenty of beer, all kinds of snacks, etc, and seated down in one of those sections of seats that face each other. The conductor even to...

Notice the total riders east of KO was 36. Yeah I guess we need 15 min service on that branch  But it is a chicken and egg scenario. They make that line so impossible to use, that no one can possibly use it. The stats for stations like Yaphank and Medford would be much much higher if they had...

Wow Fred, your photos are always great, but you outdid yourself with those two!
And BTW, that photo in your avatar is unbelievable! Do you have a larger version of that posted somewhere?

Wow, do I miss the old GP38's (and all the old diesels). I unfortunately have really lost interest in railfanning the LIRR over the last few years, and it's probably because of the DM30's. I used to be constantly out there railfanning years ago, and noticed it's become less and less over the recent ...

Abandoned Metro North Stations

Does anyone know of any lists online that show abandoned stations, dates abandoned, etc for what is nowMetro North? I have seen them for other systems, but never for what is now Metro North.
Of perhaps if you know of some the abandoned station locations, you can post them here.

Penn Station Eagle on 125th St?

I didn't take a photo of it because I was in my car, but does anyone know if one of the old Penn Station eagles is in front of a store on 125th St near 2nd Ave? (south side of 125th St). I was driving up 2nd Ave the other day, and on my way to the Triborough Bridge, and past a store that had a badly...
