I'm not sure who is commuting that way... people would be commuting TO New London, but there aren't even many of those, and the traffic isn't bad enough on 95 to justify CR out there. They should just make the people drive and get on in Saybrook, its a nice station with a lot of parking. That money ...

Why are the VRE cars limited to 80? Could they operate at 90 somewhere else? What is the speed limit on the New Haven Line down to Stamford?

There's debate as to whether a Waterbury to Hartford line would make any sense, but even if it did, this would still not justify three or four tracks on the Springfield line. NHHS and Waterbury trains would be similar (short locomotive hauled diesel or DMU), and NHHS would replace all but a couple o...

While legally surely there is some clause on the ticket that says they may bustitute the ride, buying a ticket to SLE is a ticket to ride on the ex-VRE cars, NOT some awful disgusting bus (for those of us from New York, buses other than commuter rail connector buses in Connecticut are disgusting and...

The service to OSB is important, and they aren't running enough as it is (schedule gaps), but they are running as much as they can since there's only two tracks there. Nobody really wants a bus to Torrington. People can drive to Danbury. If there are so many people who want to go from Torrington to,...

I presume that the Valley Railroad is still hoping to make Middletown at some point in the future and the P&W (the railroad) did, at one time, have thoughts of running from Saybrook to Middletown (and beyond, perhaps). Of course this all requires money and in these economic times I doubt that t...

You have good reason to be pissed off. They only run one train on the weekend, and they have 6 trainsets worth of gear, as four run on the weekdays, and they have two in reserve. I don't know why they can canceled that run, but that is totally unacceptable.

I would agree in regards to Waterbury- Berlin. NHHS, however, would be HUGE for Connecticut and Springfield. It would serve three decent sized cities and connect with two other existing services (SLE and MNCR). Considering SLE is a success (other than the New London run), NHHS would be even better, ...

Dutch, that's an interesting comparison, but that is comparing old equipment to new equipment. What would new DMU's be like? The whole theory, as it was explained to me in another thread, is that the DMU's are lighter, and these efficiencies compensate for the inefficiencies of running multiple engi...

Cheaper to run (diesel fuel costs at least 4x as much as electricity), lower emissions in an urban area, lowered noise in that area, more power if designed to deliver it, since it wouldn't be dependent on its prime mover's maximum capacity. The usual benefit of electrics. It would only make sense be...

How much will the study cost LOL. Old MNRR trains? Better not let BiggAW know; he wants those old M-2's saved at any cost! That said, I think this, along with other initiatives, are worthy. That same New England Yankee cheapness wouldn't get the line electrified. :D On a serious note, what i...

RearOfSignal, You totally missed my point. I understand they were designed that way, but the question is, is it impossible to have a locomotive that size run on third rail or was it a design trade-off they made at the time because diesel fuel cost $0.89 or whatever? You just restated the facts from ...
