I saw two articles in today's Hartford Courant that I thought would be of interest.
In the middle of all this grim news and depressingly uninspiring state government, we've got a new commissioner with a creative vision for the future. This isn't someone who dreams of more pavement, but a guy who realizes that to survive economically we must have roads and trains.

Citing delays and high costs for key Hartford-region transit initiatives, two lawmakers are pushing harder to fast-track a different project: the re-establishment of commuter rail service to the city from Waterbury. The state Department of Transportation has shown little interest in the idea before, but new Commissioner Joseph Marie acknowledged last week that it's at least worth exploring. He cautioned proponents, however, that he envisions Waterbury-to-Hartford passenger service as a long-term project.Very refreshing to read something positive about rail service in Connecticut.
