"Police and fire officials are responding to reports of an explosion at 116th Street and Park Avenue in Upper Manhattan Wednesday morning. Metro North has elevated tracks through the area. New Haven Line service into and out of Grand Central Terminal is temporarily suspended until further notic...

No wonder Forbes designated Connecticut as the most financially mismanaged state in the US: Raiders of the state's transportation fund "State lawmakers consistently voted to cut funding for vital transportation projects over the last few years even as they criticized Metro-North Railroad for a ...

"Officials with Housatonic Railroad are reporting that an engine has derailed at a crossing along their freight line in New Milford. Colin Pease, vice president of special operations for the railroad, said the train was approaching the Boardman Road crossing and jumped the track as a result of ...

What Mr. Weaver said. The list of reasons reminds me of a conversation I overheard on the Danbury branch a couple months ago between a conductor and a passenger. The passenger was traveling between Bethel and New York City and did not have a ticket or train fare. The conductor listened respectfully ...

Perhaps it's not the actual consideration of the MNR contract - IE money for moving our trains - but rather the terms that CT wants to reexamine. The terms are the "devil is in the details" part of a contract. For example: You buy a car for $24,000. OK. Do you pay all up front, monthly, p...

With problems at 3 croosings and stop and warn in effect it slows things down 1848 is 6 minutes late, then because of that 1891 is 12 minutes late and because of that 1860 is 20 minutes late. To amplify equipment comments from another thread: Metro-North signal malfunctions threaten safety, adds ti...

I don't see what the Feds have to do with the contract, but this seems like part of a coordinated plan... Conn. lawmakers ask Feds for help with Metro-North "With a growing legion of increasingly angry Metro-North riders bombarding their elected officials with emails and tweets detailing their ...

Recent press release from Gov. Malloy saying that substations along the New Haven Line will be upgraded to double electrical supply and prevent failures. http://www.governor.ct.gov/malloy/cwp/view.asp?A=4010&Q=539158" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's a wise decision ...

I can respect this, but let's take it another direction. What do you tell other people that have been fired for things that didn't result in someone dying? How can you maintain consistency when this kind of "trump" card is out there? Manager: You're fired for attendance policy violations....

One more round? "The state's transportation commissioner has given assurances that bar car service along the Metro-North New Haven Line will continue, but a final design for a bar car compatible with the new fleet of M8 cars has not been completed, and the legislature has not approved any fundi...

If that bridge was covered with bright sparkly red and yellow lights, and the trains going over it were puffing smoke - well, it would look like Hell. I'm all in favor of it.

Re: Cameras To Be Installed On Trains

Moral among train crews is not a public priority. Cameras would probably not prevented the SD crash, but they would have documented what caused it, which is key to preventing a repeat. We still don't know what really happened. Chuckie and Bloomey are experts at turning these kinds of situations into...

But it was 2013, and Connecticut politicians are known for exploiting tragedies to enact political change and get themselves in the news. This is why we do railfan trips, open houses, etc. and make sure to invite all the press to them. Then these stories end up on page 16 instead of page 1. Blumenth...

Terrapin Station, I assume you and Dutch are talking about the recent Spuyten Duyvil wreck, which so far nobody has named in this thread. About all I can quibble about Dutch's statement is a bit of hyperbole, the push operation had very little to do with what transpired. Do you doubt that the wreck...
