Re: Lehigh Valley station in Geneva NY for sale

I was inside about 10 years ago, and it was in pretty good condition all things considered. The apartments upstairs weren't anything spectacular, and the same aforementioned workshop was set up on the first level. Some quick digging through public records shows it was owned by "Lehigh Station, ...

I guess the traffic must be light given the replies.....

But just ran across this photo -

These centerbeams were in storage north of New Albany last year, so is it wishful thinking that the line has been re-activated?

A friend that lives on Route 14 south of Geneva said it looked like light power heading south one night last week. If they're back to running SD's again, I'll have to get downtown to see one sometime. Indeed, a pair of widecabs did seem sort of like overkill with 5 to 10 cars at times.

Thanks for the info everyone. I visited the area last week, and while I didn't get any time to go out exploring on my own, we did visit Limestone and the former Loring AFB. IN Limestone, looks like the tracks are intact at least up until Route 1, where they're paved over. That might be the case at o...

Former Monon line in New Albany, IN

I periodically check on things back in my Dad's hometown of New Albany, IN. Last time I was out there a year ago, the line north of the Pillsbury plant was out of service, with a few strings of centerbeam flats in storage occupying the main. Is this still the case, or is anything running up that way...

Caribou area - Whats left?

Hi there - My family and I will be visiting northern Maine this summer and I'm wondering what is still operating up there? In particular we'll be in the Caribou / Limestone area. I see tracks on Bing maps and such, but it seems like it might be wishful thinking that anything still operates. Any help...

Scot - Come to think of it, I did notice one of them was missing this morning. I never said they were being moved to a flea market - I know the mall idea went by the wayside, unfortunately, and they're prepping that site for something like a flea market, or maybe craft market, antiques mall somethin...

Manchester is quite the gathering spot for old rolling stock. The remaining LV boxcars, the 2 CR cabooses in the field ( soon to be flea market ) at the corner of 96 & 21, and now this one.

Interesting that this caboose is now sitting on a small section of track to the south of the FGLK main in Manchester.

Check it out:

Maybe placed there because there's a sandblasting company across the track? I'm stumped.

Thanks for your info on this, K4, I appreciate it. Certainly was a mystery to see that train in Geneva. I assume that HO-6 tonight might have a little more behind it? Of note, there were some great exampled of old rolling stock on that train, in particular several old "FRISCO" hoppers easi...

Interesting....

If HO-6 was parked north of Dundee, then I wonder what came or went from Geneva last night about 10pm. Finger Lakes sometimes operates late, but sure didn't sound like their train.

As far as I know, the only thing that has run north of CP Rich in a couple of years was the MOW train last year, and that only went up as far as the next crossing as they loaded the critters on the flats. Either way, CSX has to end up with the train, so one would think they'd do better with it comin...

HO-6 just came into town a few minutes ago, coal drag was still sitting north of town. I'll take a ride that way in the morning before work to see if anything has changed. Scot - If they needed a place to stuff a coal train, they wouldn't have needed to come this far north. With the coal traffic gon...

Interesting..... The whole train is now parked north of Geneva on the Corning Secondary main, with the nose of the lead unit a car length or two away from a string of stored covered hoppers, maybe 20 - 30 cars long. Not sure where it is going from here, unless it is "parked out of the way"...

This morning, drive down by the yard in Geneva to see the tail end of a loaded unit coal train, parked on the NS main. Upon further investigation, found the head end power is NS, with the lead unit past the switch where the Auburn line and Corning Secondary split. Initially I was hoping it might be ...
