The 03-06-2013/~0630-~0730 visit to ED provided some interesting sights and sounds. The radio provided the heads-up that POED was yarding, and NewBlues 612 and 607, OldPaint 614, and NewBlues 601 and 617 were doing the old back-and-forth, breaking down their train. 4 -- and then a 5th -- TTs showed up at the old tower, not to watch the dance of the 600s, but to add to Tie City. Assuming my mental math is somewhat accurate, another 1000 ties got added to the stockpile. After I left and over the radio, EDPL with 353 and 352, 27x5, and 2232 tons got the D-3 approval to accept signal indication at 0730.
There was no talk to, from, or about the Hump Switcher, but that was presumably because of POED's activity still being in progress. The yard itself seemed pretty much at the same level of occupancy as indicated in the recent samayotte aerial posting.

Not much to report concerning ED itself on 03-15-2013 but to the west on 1 just east of CPF-402, earlier and again at 0830, ED?? with NewBlue 605 and Pumpkinish 7860 awaited a recrew. There was a good string of cars, but not good enough to get anywhere near the Rte. 112 OHB.
22K was on the air while I was recaffeinating at the River Street UGB at 0900, and a quick trip to ED showed 22K was long enough to be bracketing CPF-384 and CPF-383. D-3 said the recrew would be at Millers, which happened when it came to a stop on 2 near the interchange track at 0932. NSs 9629, 9641, and 6904 were the power. In three days of gawking, this was the third day I'd seen 22K, and each subsequent time was considerably later than the previous. I trust I'm not the cause.

The 05-24-2013/~0830+/- viewing of East Deerfield was "interesting." Tie City had a new suburb, a couple of hundred feet to the west, which might be a way of distinguishing MBCR from PAS ties. Except for transmissions to and from a Car Inspector in the yard, a TC Foreman get a Line 4 for the Conn River, and ED-2 down at Mt. Tom, the airwaves were MT, and nothing in the fairly-full yard seemed in motion, the Hump Switcher included. To show that absence of radio traffic does not always mean absence of activity, a long-delayed 206 got on the radio with D-3 at 0851, asking about the approach it had just gotten at 371.2. There was more than enough time to get ahead and wait at the Box Car lot for NSs 9645, 2778, and 9159 to get 10 racks and 23 single-stack occupied wells, a mix of EMPs and Hunts, east at 0907, the Wendell talker giving a no defects to 2402' at 0912. For the next 20 minutes or so, the Cricket Symphony seemed to typify activity at East Deerfield.
