[quote="charlie6017"]Matt, you're correct with the CSX main. The biggest obstacle on the Water Level is S. Byron Hill and I doubt any pushers were needed on it in the diesel era......with exceptions of mechanical issues. I would have to believe that in the future they may consider using th...

I have a question, why doesn't C.S.X or N.S. use two engines up front and a remote controlled rear pusher for these oil trains, similar to what U.P, and B.N.S.F for the coal trains.

Maybe, if traffic volume grows to the extent of "congestion", the CSX people could go and study some history from WWII days. I refer to a passage from the excellent book by the late Don Ball Jr. and Rogers E.M. Whitaker, "Decade Of The Trains, again?! If you have an understanding of ...

I don't mean to get to off top but,I have to believe that the oil train traffic is going to increase by a significant amount due to increased fracking around the country, and I have to believe that the C.S.X. mains will be the safe and primary route to transport across N.Y. state. There are to many ...

Good morning Roadster, I as well as, I am quite sure many others are very appreciative of your's and Nicks, incite, knowledge, participation and most of all your time and patience, with all of us theorist that desire to see a continued growth in rail assets and infrastructure. It just seems like I k...

I agree with you Tree that it has not reached full capacity yet, but could possibly be a reality within the next 5 to 10 years or so. Rail traffic in the north east will most likely reap the benefit of the widening the Panama canal, then you add the possible doubling of raw material requirements, an...

Let me add my two cents, wouldn't you think that this picture is more mid 70's, maybe my memory is going bad, but, it seems to me that the "CR" logo had pretty much disappeared by the 80's. I bet the guy that took this picture did not realize what a treasure it would be years later, awesom...

Question, with the proposed increase in rail traffic to and from Alcoa in ore and finished goods and the proposed increased in the container traffic, it seems to me that the St. Lawrence sub. is going to be operating way over its operational capacity. Why wouldn't the brain trust at C.S.X. consider ...

Do the intermodal trains have priority over the N.S. oil and alcohol trains and are these trains held up on the W.S. waiting to head east? Also, why is there a box car between the engines and the tankers ?

Sounds awesome Scott, I remember my first catch, did you have to wait very long? After reading Roadsters update, seem's like it took awhile to get to Macedon.

Is the Adirondack Scenic Railroad a federally designated National Historic Landmark ? And if not why isn't it?
wouldn't that protect it from organizations that want to do away with it ?

Heritage unit's site appears more reliable when the trains enter more populated areas. It show's it to be train no: BNSF U-TNDCXY0-19T Trendon, ND-Albany, NY via CSXT
