Re: Delays & Service Disruptions Tracker

Pics here: https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/coastal-storm-northeast-rain-weekend Not sure how the tracks are numbered, presume the one closer to the water is Track 2? That looks like it could be opened fairly quickly. The biggest problem IMHO is the lack of stability in the bank, it's almost ...

And another one. Supposedly things were down from Friday (9-29) evening to 1:30 Saturday morning. But again they are saying it will be at least 2 weeks before the effects are mitigated. Really? Things halt for about 8 hours, and it's going to take 2 weeks to clear the backlog? What kind of railroadi...

How "old" are we talking? Jack Delano took countless color photos of workmen (and women) during WW II and they are available on line. I know many of them wore blue denim but believe there also were many in canvass-colored brown. If you want to get serious, I'd do a search for the corporate...

Four RDG cabooses in scrap yard

I've had this pic on the computer forever, no idea where it came from. Anybody able to provide more info? If I ever had it, I've forgotten and so has my computer. I do have it captioned that's somewhere on the Montour but no details. Looks like a scrap yard, and I'd guess the pic is from the 1950's ...

Charles, have you checked Shaughnessy's D&H book? If you don't have it I can find mine and skim through it for you.

I'll also be posting up some shots by the late William L. Hollingsworth. Bill, a friend of my dad's through an astronomy club, was an avid photographer of both rail and non-rail subjects. He was quite active in the last days of steam in the northeast, and also an international traveler. When Bill pa...

Very cool old photo! :-D Given the ornate railings I'd say that is a passenger car, not a US freight train caboose. Cabooses were more plain and functional. And the lamp and what little we can see of the coupling apparatus makes me think this is not in the US (although I have been wrong before :wink...

You might have better luck posting in the "Southeastern Railfan" section of these forums. The Interstate commerce Commission used to investigate certain wrecks, depending on severity and resulting casualties. What you describe, 19 cars, rolling onto a public highway, etc would seem likely ...

Here's scans of 5 prints. A post-it says they were at Kandersteg, Switzerland, no further details. One loco pic, then a production gang of track machines. Not sure exactly what they all are, I see tamper and ballast regulator functions but not sure what else it did.

This thread may be a bit different - here's the explanation. I'm a lifelong railfan and a retired railroader. My interests are limited to US, Canada, perhaps some Mexican and South American if they resemble US equipment. I have no knowledge of nor interest in European railroading. However, I am very...

You mean we need to go back to pencils, carbon paper and IBM punch cards? (Good luck getting someone willing to walk a dark freight yard at 0230 taking car numbers!)

Guess you're not into country music. That would be George Strait, not Alan Jackson. :P

I work there and didn't hear about it. I'm pretty good at keeping up with the LSL. I always like to see what surprises Chicago might have in store for us in ALB. I'm still not certain whether 48 AND 448 were annulled, or just 448. Bottom line was daughter's family rented a car and are driving to Bo...
