Many thanks to all whose work produced an outstanding, informative tour Sunday, April 18, 2004. It turned out to be a beautiful day for the hundred-plus people arriving at the Canaan, Connecticut, Union Station, to trace the Central New England Railway west to Pine Plains, New York. Some enthusiasts...

The NY Times 4.19.4 also ran the same story as reported by the Inquirer. On the one hand, last Thursday I encountered crowds on the cars and few autos in the parking lots at Pennsauken and Florence. On the other hand, I saw the ticket-inspectors doing a lot of writing in their notepads. I wondered w...

I heard two descriptions on the radio. One said the Amtrak assailant was a "work train," the other said an "empty train." What was the locomotive? Number or type? thanks.

Delays entering single track after other train clears

I am pleasantly surprised that I have not yet encountered an outrageous delay entering single track on the River Line, two minutes at most spent waiting for the opposite train. I recall the waits on Warburton Avenue (Yonkers Railroad) and the LVT! However, what has surprised me are the delays after ...

I rode several sections of the River Line yesterday. About 10:30 a.m. at Bordentown, I boarded a crowded car for Trenton. Two inspectors were checking tickets as we boarded. One then suggested that I fold down a seat in the opposite doorway. Both got off at Cass Street, met two other inspectors on t...

Another question: What is the meaning of the orange disks with the letters LRT in blue? Thanks.

Near the Florence station, there is an interchange with the NJ Turnpike connector from the Penn Turnpike. I have used it to get from US 130 to the northbound Turnpike. Is that interchange four-way, that is, can folks from Pennsylvania get off at US 130 and reach the River Line in a minute or two? If...

Thanks for the explanations. Now, how about the signs with black letters on a white square, W on the top line, MX below it (if my memory is correct)?

On the River Line, what is indicated by the vertical yellow wayside sign with the letters "D I B" ? Thanks.

I am only in the learning process. If I read this link correctly, the section of the River Line west (south) of Bordentown was the Camden and Amboy until the Pennsylvania Railroad least or bought it in 1871. I note, in particular, the map at the far bottom of this link. http://cprr.org/Museum/Epheme...

This is a draft of an answer to my own question. I welcome comments and corrections. Thanks! River Line trip, Sunday, March 21, 2004 To conform to station signs, I will use as direction south to Camden, north to Trenton. This gets a bit problematic with East and West Broad Street in Burlington and s...

In 1993, the LIRR used balky ticket vending machines made in Germany. The same year, we rode the interurban trolley from Vienna to Baden. Then I bought return tickets from a window in the railroad station, and we boarded a suburban train back to Vienna. At one intermediate station, I looked out the ...

River Line single track mileage?

Am I correct that the River Line is 34 miles end-to-end? How many miles of it are single-track? As I recall, all the street running in Camden is double-track, but in the center of Burlington it is single. Thanks.
