Did you mean slave, or slug? There is a difference.
Truthfully, I don't know the difference well enough. I guess I'm guilty of using them interchangeably. Thanks for the insight on the difference.

Around mid afternoon today, I saw a couple of locomotives, one being a slave unit, pulling a set of 30+ continuous rail carriers northbound, across Dewey Ave, towards Charlotte. They were transporting one continuous rail. Two of the cars had perches with seating available and an employee was in one ...

I saw a couple of MOW workers near the McCall Rd crossing this afternoon. They were tightening the nuts and bolts of the rail joints. It was a manual operation using an older power tool that was essentially a gas engine powering a large socket wrench, via a drive shaft. It was on a horizontal triang...

Thank you, Gil. Those sites were very informative. I would guess that CSX is making a conscious effort to keep this line in service.

I happened to be at the mini mart at the McCall Rd crossing and saw a CSX maintenance truck cross McCall Rd. He was traveling northbound and stopped shortly after he crossed. The crossing lights and gates were still activated. He then got out of his vehicle and went to the crossing to wave vehicles ...

Well, when was the last time you walked this stretch of the Runner? Fresh white paint can look fresh for a few years, and since it's still winter for Rochester - those weeds could have been cut back a couple of years ago too. All this done before the line went OOS. Also consider the fact you're tre...

I took a short walk along the right of way, between McCall Rd and Ridge Road West because I noticed a few things as I crossed the tracks at the McCall crossing. One tie just south of the crossing had been painted white from end to end, including the rail web. In the distance, I saw the old NYC cemen...

I saw a small white Sperry Rail Service truck going northbound from Ridge Road West, today. It was a box truck with a cab, and wheels for either road or rail. It was going slow and appeared to be doing an inspection because I could see some sort of illumination near the rear axle. Does anyone know w...

I remember reading the controversy when the old bay outlet vehicle bridge was going to be removed after the abandonment of the hojack line. I don't recall who said it or where I read it, but one person trying to justify the removal said the railroad originally filled in across the bay outlet illegal...

Is the yard up in Charlotte still being used for storage - or is it completely empty now? I drove over both the Greenleaf Rd crossing and the overpass on Lake Ave this past weekend. All the original stored cars are gone, but just west of Lake Ave was a string of cars that came out of Kodak, coal ho...

In addition to the cars moved this afternoon, about 9 o'clock tonight they moved the roughly 90 coil cars back to the city from Charlotte. Either CSX has new plans or Chuck Schumer is having his way.

I just saw a string of about 20 flat cars and about 35 gons heading south from Charlotte. Anyone know what prompted the move?
