Only 15 passengers on last night's (7/4/14) train back to Boston.
Concrete ties only work well in areas with good water drainage. Otherwise they become known as "Mud Pumpers".
585 passengers on tonight's CapeFLYER. Not too shabby considering the area is under a tropical storm warning.
There will be no weather severe enough (aside from a lot of rain) to force the suspension of the railroad bridge operations. Top winds speed for Friday night are only expected to reach 20 to 30 MPH.
Tommy Meehan wrote:Can they do that, do they have enough applicants? For every assistant conductor job MN advertises, they get dozens of responses. Being an assistant conductor, conductor or engineer is where the big money is.
I hope this will end MN's practice of hiring conductors off the street with no prior railroad experience. They should only promote from within.
I fear the dire weather predictions will scare off riders for this coming holiday weekend for the CapeFLYER. Even if the storm does not get severe as some predict, there will still be a lot of rain through Saturday morning. Bad for potential riders and bad for rail fans taking pictures.
Just to let people know, the Flyer will be operating on Thursday on a Friday schedule, and Friday through Sunday on a Saturday/Sunday schedule. Extra coaches are to be added for the big weekend. Actually, the current consist is maxed out at 8 cars (6 double-deckers & 2 single level) and one eng...
That is what is know as a big "IF".

Nice, I just wish they would wrap the ends. I understand the this car will be a bike only car and the other wrapped car (#224) will have the bike racks removed and seats put back in.
Word has it that tonight's train (6/27/14) will have a second wrapped coach that will eventually be used only to store bicycles. Coach #244 will have the bike racks removed and seats put back in. There is a new second platform at Buzzard's Bay to facilitate the loading/unloading of bicycles as well.

this getting painful to watch. as i posted at the start, this will be a failure. rail can never overcome road except in dense geography. and even that is always a battle. commuter rail is way too expensive. unfortunately we have politics pandering to the low information voters. imagine what would h...
Please do not feed into KEN PATRICK. He is looking to argue and make the topic become financial/ State Politics based. This is a RAILFAN board to talk about trains. Yes we can talk about funding and proposals, but that's not the focus here. He is off base, but I think we should let him spout his po...
