OK didn't know one of the two between Middleville and Newport was removed. Appreciate the correction.
That Bridge was removed during WW2 for the scrap metal. The two abutments still remain, as seen in recent pix below.
There are still 3 bridges left crossing the West Canada...one at the East end of Poland and two between Middleville and Newport. Very cool postcard...thanks for sharing.
That "Trenton Falls, Yesterday and Today" is an awesome book. Page 145 talks about a Trenton Chasm depot, but that's the only reference I've seen. I knew Myrtle Simpson before she died, the last descendent of all those Trenton Falls people in the book. Amazing what the hydroelectric did to...
CJ: Are you looking for pix of the Trenton Chasm station on the M&M or Trenton Falls station on the BR&U side? That station supposedly exists as a home on the opposite side of the Prospect Depot road from the tracks. It was moved at some point years ago. There is no reference to a Trenton Ch...
Wondering if there has been any thought to preparing a business case for getting to the reservoir...increased ridership = increased revenues = potential ability to pay of a loan that could be used to fund quicker tie replacement...maybe get a loan to hire a company like Reigel's to come in and quick...
Does anyone know if a crankshaft from a 539 would be backfit compatible to a 531? I don't have access to manuals that would answer this question. It appears that it might be since the major difference in the blocks is the mounting that allows the 539 to sit lower in the carbody. Thank you for any gu...
Nice to see the dollies used. Anyone know what was used to lift the ends of the cars to remove/replace the trucks? jacks? crane?
The elevation difference between the lead to CSX and the track the locomotives are on is too great to simply connect them together. It is thought that the rails still lie under the gravel fill towards the power plant, and one option is to excavate the gravel and pull them up to the powerplant level ...
Also not mentioned was the use of steam power at the ceremony. Pix of Viscose Company #6 on the Facebook link provided on the last link in Otto's post. Nice to have Chuck Schumer show up...
Navy 1987-2007, CDR, Ret, Desert Shield/Storm, OEF, OIF Ships USS THOMAS S GATES (CG-51), USS JOHN S.McCAIN (DDG-56) and USS BATAAN (LHD-5). Coolest Navy railfanning moment was a cab ride on Maine Coast ALCO C-420 367 in 1994, crossing the Kennebec River bridge in Bath Maine right next to the McCAIN...
We had record attendence on both trains Saturday. Awesome...says a lot about the resilience of CMRR and dedication of the volunteer force. Ernie Hunt is an unsung hero...this may be one of the best coordinated volunteer efforts in the country. The weekly calls to work and weekly updates are regular...
Yes Cactus Jack it was bitter cold that day...I remember that. My 65 Plymouth was struggling to put out the heat. Here's another pic of that derailment that shows the washout...
I was driving to a quarry on Sale Road east of West Winfield (or maybe west of East Winfield) and what should be sitting there but 101 derailed with a couple of cars. It was still warm but no one was around. A few hours later a crew arrived to put it back on the rails. Was April of either 82 or 83. ...
The covered brisge is a road and you can still drive on it. Looking at a map in Parkers book it appears the RR was to the east of Spruce Creek but definitely crossed Black Creek to the north.
