RSD15 is correct, I was referring to the track 2 westbound signal at CP282 which can be seen from the pedestrian bridge. My main point was that even though some signals are always lit, it is still possible to get an indication that there are movements nearby.
its a fascinating process because some of the ex nyc looks like any other csx line and parts of it look like the nyc, pc, or cr with this signal project. i like how the signals stay on all the time at some locations now too. I was told that CR kept them off when there is no train on block is to pre...
Minor nit on the Adirondack Scenic list - you have one of the RS-18's listed as 1843 - it should be 1835, same number it came in with from CP.
Here are a couple shots of a CSX crane with a somewhat less flattering paint and lettering job. Taken in April 2007 at CP263 near ONeida. As roadster indicated, it was there as part of a switch replacement project.
How is 1502 doing Haven't seen it since it was F10 412 for metro north It is one of our workhorses. It has been in service pretty much the entire time since I started volunteering in 2006, and before that as well. She has held down the Thendara locals in push - pull service for a couple of years no...
why wont the f units do up here? im not a fan of emd f units, much bigger fan of alcos. any answers are appreciated. thanks. F units cannot be operated in reverse very effectively because the engineer has no way to see in the reverse direction. The choice is to 1) have a second F unit pointing in t...

This will extend CSX standard signal rules (SBD) from CP FB in Selkirk to CP 298.Aren't there still old style signals between Rome and CP263, among other places between Utica and Syracuse?

Last summer I spotted an impromptu roadside memorial at the crossing near the Oneida detector (Fox Rd?), a couple miles west of Verona. I presume there had recently been a car/train incident there that did not end well? That one involved a motorcycle with two riders (husband and wife) that also wen...
Have there been any follow up stories in the news about a possible cause of the accident? Got this info from my nephew, who is in the Verona VFD. Seems the woman who drove into the train was following the vehicle of another individual who drove through the gates while they were down before she did....
I don't read this thread very much so this may be a repeat. Why can't you have both next to each other? The access road becomes the hiking trail. I rode a trail from the town of Ripley in PA. Bike path is right next to an active line. Instead of bashing each other and trying to put each other out o...
And about those 40,000 users: How many of them are new visitors, or would most of them simply be people that would come to the area anyway and simply choose this trail in lieu of the other existing 1,200 miles of trails? Where is the economic benefit if the same visitors are simply displaced from on...
I'm going to be visiting the Cooperstown area and will likely head down to Cooperstown Junction for a look at some of the equipment stored there, and maybe catch a CP or NS train on the main. Does anyone know if there is any kind of reliable schedule of trains on the CP through there? I'll be there ...
The railroad recently put out an information card that has a "fact or fiction" section on one side that addresses some of the ARTA assertions (RR is subsidized, nobody rides it, etc.). They should be available on the trains and the stations by now. Not sure if there are plans for wider dis...
Russ: Given your knowledge of the area, do you think one could reasonably piece together a bicycle route that runs from, say, Big Moose to Lake Placid using some combination of paved roads, existing bicycle trails, and trails parallel to the roadbed (i.e. between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid)? Could...
