It definitely sounded like a step in the right direction and Amtrak sounds like they like the project and would like to move forward. Of course, still major hurdles to go (project gets picked, funding, etc) but happy to see some sort of news.

This popped up today on Amtrak's website regarding the cutoff. https://media.amtrak.com/2023/03/amtrak-study-examines-scranton-new-york-corridor/?fbclid=IwAR0aAOOfPh2IoJI0HZ1icV3-7x7TGE_8v2rM2wQXMtTrIFm97MCnTyTkcfk Here is a link to the finding... https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/e...
Going out to Mr. Bug, and the other aficionados who again seek through passenger service over the Cut-Off: https://youtu.be/xrOHCwodHu4 Thank you for sharing! My wife's grandmother told us she used to take the Phoebe Snow from Summit to Scranton to visit family. It's pretty neat to see what it was ...
Wow, this is terrible. They are saying 100+ injured. Prayers to all involved..
My coworker has a friend or two who were on that train.. thankfully they are only a bit shaken, but ok.
It is believed that the engineer thought he was elsewhere along the route. How he became unaware of exactly where he was can only be guessed at this point. More details will obviously become available in time. I've often wondered about this. Rail ROWs have no lighting and minimal signage, compared ...
I used to take the Gladstone line every day for work for about 10 years out of Murray Hill first for a short while and then New Providence when I moved across the street from the station. I have always wanted to ride it out to the end of the line, as it gets very scenic (I've driven quite a few time...
I should bid on 4141 and restore it to .... Morrison Knudsen colors? Wait - that's for the nonsense thread. But - it's interesting to see there are a bunch for sale! I wonder who/if they will be picked up/leased? I'll be curious to see if and where these end up..... I wonder if I could bid on one t...
My thoughts are with the family, crew and passengers. I was on a train that hit someone that committed suicide years ago and it defintely stays with you. Not sure if what happened at New Brunswick was a suicide or not but any train vs pedestrian fatality is traumatic. When I used to take the train y...
NBC had a brief tribute this morning to one of their employees who was one of the people killed in the derailment. My neighbors daughter works for NBC in NYC, I'll have to find out if she knew him. Very sad to hear about the derailment and the deaths/injuries.
Just saw this as well. I always enjoyed his postings, he was a longtime contributer here. I was shocked to read this. RIP JT
I don't think it's so much about people thinking they won't make it to the train. They're not going to close the doors while 100 people are still on the escalator and another 200 on the platform. The mad rush is all about wanting a seat. Regardless of the odds people want to get down as quickly as ...
Why put platforms in for ADA compliancy when the portable lifts they have there work absolutely fine? My wife has used them many times without incident. Often when the train pulls in there is someone waiting for us with the lift. Other times at the most we have to wait a few mins for the conductor t...

I'm glad to see work has started! I wish I had the time to pitch in and help, but work and other commitments don't allow (I'm spread out thin enough as it is!) I'll definitely check out the "buy-a-bolt" program. I think it's great that work finally has begun and I am looking forward to rid...
