Re: Unintended consequence of the Quiet Cars

I used to work the hind end of train 5743, where before the quiet car policy, the last car was like a free for all with groups of commuters sitting together and being loud, laughing, shouting, and what not. After the quiet car policy went into effect, and after a few weeks of getting it under contro...

Re: Unpublished Dwell: NJT 3814 at New Brunswick

Some crews just care about getting to the destination on time, others don't care at all and run as hard as they can all the time, and others will get there when they get there. It is what it is. Years ago there was an RVL conductor (now retired) who liked to be a couple of minutes late everywhere a...

The only thing I am aware of is that on MARCH 1st (not April 1st, as previously stated), they want the on board surcharge to be charged at every station and in EITHER DIRECTION. Even at locations where there are TVM's on only one side, and the surcharge was waived on the other side until now. I don'...

To make a TVM malfunctioning story more believable (and possibly actually get the surcharge waved) is to tell the stooge.... er.. umm.. TC the number of the machine malfunctioning and why. (they are then supposed to report it. not too many of them know this). The number will display every few secon...

Again, NJT knows nothing about running express trains if you're not on the NEC. It's not just Bay Head, it's painfully long from places like Dover, Gladstone, Raritan and anywhere west of Montclair. The only saving grace for people north of NY are the MTA express trains and MTA hold down fares. Suf...

Pfft. I don't pity you. $31 RT from Bay Head to NY Penn(if I paid daily)......and it takes two and a half hours! Name me a worse screw job. I have absolutely zero sympathy for anyone who complains about how long a regular (on schedule with no delays) train ride is.The 2 1/2 hour trip should have be...

While NJT deserves a lot of blame for some of its problems, I think buying the ML equipment was one of the smarter moves in increasing capacity I agree, which is why the Raritan Valley Line should not be 100% multilevels...some or all of those 10 RVL sets should go to lines which have higher riders...

Despite how anyone feels about the fares, I think the trains to/from New York during the rush hours are still heavily patronized And many trains during off peak times and on weekends/holidays are still heavily patronized...people still pay big bucks to go to sporting events (Yankees, Mets, Rangers,...

Hasn't the LIRR and Metro North been just about 100% high level for about 15-20 years now? What's left? Appalachian Trail and Manitou?
