Yeah, but Dave, even I would love to be in the cab during the move! Dead or not!!

I suspect that since it will be essentially a box car during this move, even if it is next to the power, the FRA would frown upon occupying the cab during the move, just as they would the occupation of a boxcar during any move it might make.

Having said that, it might be cool. Maybe. Perhaps.

Well, it ain't a Turboliner, but I'll take it! Seriously, hope I'm around to see it if one rolls...I'm going to be visiting my brother in Europe for a couple of weeks, so I could be aboard a TGV somewhere when this happens. Oh well...

Hello all,

Hello Mr. Levin and NJT 4272,

I've enjoyed watching all the speculation in this thread. I think many are hopeful (myself included) that we will see a restored operating GG1 back under the wire someday, somewhere. In the mean time, lets enjoy these photo opportunities with static engines when they are presented to us. I have always enjoyed going to Harrisburg and seeing the 4859 under the trainshed. To see 4935 in Washington Union Station again will be equally thrilling as well.

I would like to thank both Mr. Levin and Jeff however, for clueing us in on this event. If Mr. Levin had not said something in another forum, and Jeff had not started asking questions, many of us might not have known about this event until after it was over. Thank you to the both of you for bringing this to the attention of so many others.

:-D  :-D Now comes the completely unfair and utterly uncalled for "let's lay a guilt trip on Jeff" moment....... :-D  :-D

(note: the statement below should be read as good natured ribbing, not a mean insult...)

So, for those of you who would rather see something unique, versus traveling to, say Vermont, or maybe the Catskills, to look at the same old leaves, here is a preview of what may be seen in Washington on the first weekend of October instead!!

Here is the 4935 at Washington Union Station in 1977. Does anyone care to guess which PRR business car that is on the adjacent track?

The Friends of the GG1 ran quite a few fan trips with the 4935. While the GG1 was the star, PRR 120 was also a regular on the these trips of the late 1970's.

Hopefully Amtrak will get a really good turnout in Washington for the celebration. I'm looking forward to it.

Well, that's all for now folks!

See ya all later.........

Thanks for the pics! I was skeptical about taking a trip down to DC but after those photos I'm curious as to what track they will put it on and the best cure might be to go down and see for myself. That or I will try to catch the move when it happens.

My, My! Since when did I become the target of such satire, the likes which can only be found in such fine publications as Mad Magazine? I had no idea that I was some sort of celebrity. Rising; I had no idea that you, and your "benefactor", held me in such high regard. :-D

I cannot take ANY credit for BEGINNING this line of questions. The questions being directed at our good friend Mr. Levin had already begun on another forum. I just felt that the topic would make for some interesting conversation here, so I am only guilty of some diligent web browsing.

To look at the same old leaves, he says! Ha! Yes the leaves have a good part to do with my trip. I do have a better-half that has no interest in the railroad what-so-ever, and she gets my time on the weekends when I'm not in Boonton! But, my trip to the Catskills is also professional. The Catskill Mountain RR runs one of THE finest volunteer organizations around. As Volunteer Group Foreman for the URHS, and a member of it's board of directors, I feel its very important to learn from their example and possibly form a symbiotic relationship with them. So, personally and professionally, being up there on this historic weekend is a bit more important. In the immortal words of the great Mr. Spock; "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one".

So, in closing; Yes! This POTENTIAL happening with the 4935 has the PROBABILITY of being something very unique to witness, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to attend. I guess I'll just have to be content with working on, restoring, and preserving our 4877 and 4879. Besides, I was fortunate enough to ride behind 4877 and 4879 on October 29, 1983 at the tender age of 8 and still remember it vividly. Having done that and now being able to care for them 25 years after the fact is all the GG-1 I need.

Just for the record, my shot of PRR120 was taken on the first revenue run of 4935 after her painting. That said, she was often on the rear of the fan trips pulled by 4935.

Somewhere in this chase I missed where GGI #4935 currently resides....

And Bennett....am I reading the tea leaves here accurately in that you and the E8A's are escorting this G to/from D.C. on an NEC extra move ?
