CR on the Southern Secondary

I’m home in Neptune and I just heard the train blowing for Farmingdale. A friend of mine was out there and was able to confirm that I heard SA-38. They should be coming up on Bel-Ray in a matter of minutes from now.

18 cars this week (but only one engine). What's the longest train in the history of this thread? (Anyone going to go back and read through 560 pages!)

As per a friend, CSX 4429 has replaced 4421 at browns. Apparently 4421s rods were knocking so they shipped it out. 4429 reportedly had its turbo rebuilt and its horn tuned recently, but they still didn't bother to paint it XD.

There was a post about 7-9 Years ago rumored to have some 6 axle wide cabs come down at night with 50+ Boxcars for Earle. Dont think anyone actually saw it and was just heard on the scanner. Cant say whether or not it ever really happened.

An sd40-2 came down on a work train with gons in 2009. I dont believe any work was ever completed and they came back the following afternoon. Thats about the most i know about Longer trains or bigger power on the Southern.

The last ballast train came down in 2004 with NS 3055 and CSX 1537

The last 6 axle power was a pair of CSX engines on a LONG train that backed into NWS Earle, probably 15-20 years ago. The locos stayed behind the gate/fence at NWS Earle (by 84 lumber!) for a few days and somewhere I have SLIDES (this was before decent digital photography) I believe the loco numbers were in the 3 digit sequence.

I remember the delivery to Earle with the six-axles. I want to say they were SD60I/M units, but a Dash 8 wouldn't surprise me either. I have scanned photos somewhere of those engines.

Quickly went through some notes on my old website and found this one from 2002: The first Train of the year, Jan 5th, was a CSX GP40-2 with 21 cars.

I believe there was a Dash 8 Conrail Quality locomotive that came down years ago(2005). It was parked next to the builders general on Rt. 37 when I saw it. It must have been one of the last trains that delivered to builders general or the propane place.

I saw a 21 car train back on October 23, 2014. That train had one brick, four gondolas, and sixteen Woodhavens; NS 5269 and NS 5282 were the power. I have a link to my video below.

Fast forward to right now, the SA-38 is currently working Bel-Ray on their way back north. The train will have 19 cars for Browns once they depart Bel-Ray.

Entered the Southen Secondary interlock at 4:26 in the PM

I was able to see the train today in Shrewsbury and Tinton Falls. Motive power is 6228 and 6160 today. Clouds really thickened as the train approached Tinton Falls.
