Regardless of how good of a shape the Amfleet Is are in, it's approaching their retirement. 40 plus something years is an long time for mainline passenger rail rolling stock to be in revenue service. They have served their purpose for a very long time transporting passengers along the East Coast. Th...

Well the Fall of 2021 is almost over so I think in Fall of 2022 is a possibility for the electrification of Track 6 in NLC. As for 6 car SLE M8 Sets-I agree that they should run on the Stamford Direct trains given the fact that those trains are geared toward those commuters who work in Stamford duri...

Re: Weighing the Advantages of improving CP216 at New Rochelle

Bear in mind that I-95 runs alongside the tracks west of NRO so building a flyover there would involve having to build over a lane or two of I-95. A flyover at CP216 isn't even planned. I have seen and ridden many Amtrak trains on the New Haven Line between STM and NRO that use Track 2-track that co...

The future of CP216 is very important as within 4-5 years, Metro North will start running select New Haven Line trains to NYP while serving the East Bronx. MNR will be building a yard just north of NRO to accommodate the trains that will run into West Midtown.

I don't think there is any need to reelectrify the Danbury Branch. There will be little time savings of an electric train accelerating as they depart and decelerate when arriving at stations on the branch. The speed limit is only 50 with many curves. I could certainly see a siding or two added. It m...

I might be making a trip to Charlotte in the next five years and when I do, I would take the train. My hotel would probably be very close to Downtown Charlotte and would love to be able to get dropped off on Amtrak within a few blocks from where I am staying rather than two miles up the road. I migh...

All of those projects mentioned under the rail/transit subcategory are key. However, since this forum is obviously about Amtrak, I'm going to discuss some of the Amtrak related ones. 1. The SW Chief La Junta Route Restoration Program-it would certainly nice to have both Amtrak's Southwest Chief and ...

I have ridden Amtrak to both Newport News and Norfolk. It's been almost 12 years since I last rode to NPN and almost a decade for NFK. I remember the route to and from NFK being better than NPN. First off, I remember there is consistent 79 mph running NFK to Petersburg. I would love to see those Sie...

Oh yes, at the end of the day, the Amtrak routes that continue south and west of DC are used heavily by freights. While the bypass around Franconia-Springfield and the extra track capacity will help along the former RF&P, CSX will always continue to run many trains down that line as that's a ver...

Just like much of what I said about not electrifying the Springfield Line, there is no need to electrify the former RF&P plus the restored S-Line(if gets rebuilt). The dual powered trainsets will significantly serve their purposes when they continue beyond the Northeast Corridor.

I have been wondering the same thing too. Hopefully when the multilevel mus make their way on NJT turf, it won't be long until testing begins so that way they can be put into revenue service. Remember that these brand new multilevel MUs here are power cars and they will be compatible with existing m...

Having that siding north of Ashland for CSX trains will certainly help. Today, there is probably no more than a two hour gap on average between Amtrak trains running on the RF&P in VA, especially south of Lorton. When Amtrak starts running hourly Northeast Regional service below DC plus those fo...

Commuter rail service for the Richmond area would be worth looking into if let's say there is a right of way that runs from suburbs to Richmond that would provide conventional speeds plus not be the former RF&P tracks. Just remember that even after more Amtrak trains get added to the former RF&a...

VRE doesn't need to extend from Spotsylvania to Richmond. Right now, the Amtrak service between the Northeast and Richmond is almost like its own commuter service. Eventually, more Amtrak trips will be added south of DC making an hourly schedule pattern. Extending VRE to Richmond would probably be l...

I agree with much of the sentiment in this thread that a trail was probably the best route for this ROW. There really wasn’t a lot of significant worth to restoring any rail service on this line. On a slightly different subject, I’d love for them to also turn the remaining part of the Orange Branch...
