Okay, wondered if you were anywhere where you could go explore out on the ground.

Hi, ran across this post and thought i may have some information to share about the bald knob coal mines and wellersburg railroad. here is a link which describes the mining operations in good detail..http://www.mountsavagehistoricalsociety ... ompany.htm . I am from wellersburg and live in the area today. I have read reference to the railroad as being the called the "wellersburg and Jennings run Railroad" , but not much info exists on it.The railway in wellersburg ends about 1/8 mile north of the remains of an iron furnace which was built In 1855/56, see link http://korns.org/misc/WIF-2007/WIF-2007.html .the railway was apparently in operation prior the the construction of the furnace according to other referances . there is also the remains of a mile long tram road which begins at the end of the railway and goes east under route 160, this can be seen from google maps. see link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 19&iwloc=A Much of the railway beds are in tact and a few bridge abutments are as well.
