Mr. NHV, I'd like to think that when Chessie sought to acquire the Maine Central (that's what I think the Pan Am acquisition was mostly about), I think she had more in mind than whatever cars she could "snitch" from the CP-M's existing traffic base.

Doesn't look like either road freight passed Greenville yesterday, although the rail train did come west, drop their empty train at Moosehead siding, and return east.

Mr. NHV, I hope for the sake of "that darned cat" and that "herbivore rodent" those rather paltry loadings on the "one a day" over the CP-M are not indicative of "that's all there is" for railroads. If such be the case, then Chessie should have left Timmy to play with his 1:1 Lionel and Beaver (wazizname?) left Eddie running his bankrupt road and hope he didn't spill another resulting in a "Megantic II".

Now maybe with two roads, one that can serve the Southeast region and the other the Midwest as well as anywhere in Canada save Prince Rupert, this will result in expansion of the Port of Saint John to such extent that both roads will hold their investments will pay off and entice other industries with high value traffic to locate in Maine.

From what I read around here, away from the lines where passenger trains operate, much...MUCH work is needed to make the Maine Central into a viable channel of railroad transportation, but then I like to think "that darned cat ain't dumb (cats are considered intelligent as animals go; more so than dogs)".
