Everyone: What is now Tropical Depression Ida along with a strong frontal boundary (very warm and humid air from the Ida remnants interacting with cooler and drier air from the north) touched off severe weather events in the northeast - with widespread flooding, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes being reported.
Central Park in Manhattan reported almost 7 inches of rain (6.95 in.) in just a few hours time in the evening. 3.15 inches of rain fell in just one hour surpassing - just 10 days later - an hourly rainfall record set August 22 of almost two inches of rain. There is major flooding issues currently in the NYC area as I post with all of the rail transit in the area - NYC Subway, LIRR, MNCR and NJT currently shut down completely as of 2:00 AM EDT.
There are going to be travel disruptions for all rail transit in the northeast on Thursday September 2. If anyone is using Amtrak or any other rail service plan accordingly and call ahead...MACTRAXX
