Hi guy's,
We took a ride out on the cut off tonight, It was the first trip up there since last winter.

With all the rain the last few days it was like driving through a river in places. On the west end of Roseville tunnel there is a long deep cut through the hill. It's always flooded here but tonight the water was 1 1\2 feet deep in places. NJT has some real work to do on this section with all the water and rock slides.

Some pics:

Note the hunk of fallen concrete:

The former EB main is in the trees on the left, The WB main is where the water is:

No, not really. While the decision to will over the DL&W ROW for Rt 80 did the Boonton Line in for both speed and capacity at the time of the EL merger, it was really CR who did in the Cut Off in their usual manner of making a decision and executing it the following day by dismantling it befor anyone was the wiser. In this instance they went so far as to sell it to an "investor" so that it would never be for rail use again because it was a good route for a lot of reasons. What if Road Railer had found that Port Morris was an excellet jumping off place? CR would have lost $$$ to NS and that was a NoNo!
