I was told last week by a railfan that septa is accepting requests on how to improve its service. i have a few suggestions; but i was wondering what other railfans think about what septa can do to improve. any and all suggestions are welcome

I should hope they're always welcoming requests on how to improve service (and they're going to get them from DVARP whether they want them or not!). QuietRide and some other improvements started with customer suggestions.

The timing of what you heard suggests that your friend heard about the Annual Service Plan: proposals for which are due at the end of August. The Annual Service Plan includes an objective process for evaluating suggestions for changing routes, adding routes, or changing service levels (like adding night or weekend service). If you contact DVARP at [email protected] or 215-RAILWAY, we can explain how to formally put your suggestions in.

Suggestions that don't have to do with routes and schedules should go through the Customer Service office, DVARP, or the Citizen Advisory Committee (we and CAC can get follow-up on suggestions as well as helping you think them through and submit them).

TVMs at all stations, hello its 2013, waiting in line for a ticket, or paying the fine on the train is lame. Heck do what NJT is doing smartphone etickets.

Well, with the eventual implementation of NPT, this may actually be a moot point. Then again, this is SEPTA, so your guess is about as good as mine... :-/

MM, as you know, I am very well versed in these. Especially so for the last one you mentioned. I wanted to know if the OP had any additional information.

No doubt you know the players. I wanted to get all the avenues out in the thread--we really want people to share their ideas with us whichever way is most comfortable for them.

How about a simple crossover or tunnel at Fern Rock? The distance between Godfrey Ave and Olney Ave is too huge for most people stuck in between the east side of the tracks to walk, and then once you get to those crossovers, you still have to circumnavigate the entire subway yard (all 15 some odd tracks of it) to get back to square one to enter the system. There ought to be access points. It's really no wonder this stretch of tracks is so dangerous, with multiple trespass incidents. I see people every day doing illegal crossings.

If I go birch at them about the Route 78 Bus Train, will they actually listen? Is it even worth my time?

You mean asking for a train at those hours? 1--they will listen. 2--they've probably already done the math, so responding to the suggestion will be as simple as plugging the current numbers into the cost-recovery equation. I know this is something they've researched. So go ahead and submit it.
