If you'd like to be a Class I RR Engineer I believe you have to start out in Train Service both at the UP and BNSF, which means you'll start out as a brake(person), switch(person), and Conductor. UP is hiring in most states it serves (primarily west of the Mississippi) for Train Service (Conductor) ...

I think you only need the RR degree (Associates) if you lack the 1 year minimum job experience (in any career) to apply for a RR like UP. I don't think UPRR typically hires 18 year olds without work experience. So the Assoc. Degree would be one alternative to meeting the 1 year work experience requi...

I agree, google earth is MUCH better, plus you can turn on a railroad layer and will show the approximate location of most railroad lines (including abandoned c. 1970-1980 U.S.)

I think the UP calls Trainmasters by the title "M.T.O." now (Manager, Terminal Operations) and the Yardmasters, "M.Y.O." (Manager, Yard Operations). I don't know much about their jobs except that the M.T.O. I met with came up from the ranks of conductor and then transferred into ...

I went to a hiring session for Train Service last week. Job briefing - rules/reading comprehension test - interview. If you pass test and interview you receive a call a day or two later asking you to come back to fill out more forms. You fill out the forms and they schedule you for a PAT (Physical A...

Razor, thanks for the info. UPRR for their Train Service at least give you a ballpark (up to $40,000 the first year and up to $75,000 after) but Amtrak gave only "prevailing union rate".

It's probably because more openings are anticipated to come open. For example, in CA they had every location open up to 9/30. On 10/1 they opened only two locations, Roseville and LA for Train Service. I guess those were the two locations where they are hurting the most for manpower. I want to a hir...

OK, so if you hire at one location, you can't work another. That's a little different than I've heard from a friend who works at UP. He told me that you can work anywhere within the Service Unit that your Seniority will hold. I take that to mean, if they need manpower in Roseville CA and I'm hired o...

Amtrak Asst Conductor Salary

 by rhallanger ¦  Thu Sep 22, 2005 4:34 am ¦  Forum: Employment ¦  Topic: Amtrak Asst Conductor Salary ¦  Replies: 27 ¦  Views: 12755

What does an Asst Conductor at Amtrak make?

The only thing the Human Resource announcement at jobs.amtrak.com says is the prevailing Union rate.

The pay rate shouldn't be a secret as it is a Union agreement.
