Re: Milford CT Question

It's just not needed. The 90 parking spots in Milford that would be lost to adding the 4th track back are much more valuable than a track that isn't needed. Adding another crossover east of Milford station to increase capacity would be a good idea. Actually, I count < 25 spots... https://www.google...

Now... I thought the channel was being relocated, more towards the center of the river, hence why they just couldn't use the existing piers to build a new bridge on. The piers were built to support 2 bridges side by side for 4 tracks (similar to Devon). Only the south side of the piers got used with...

Also Old Saybrook; proximity to New London. Not sure what the passenger counts are at either. That's my home Amtrak station, about 5 miles away from me. There's quite a bit of Amtrak business there. The Acelas don't stop, but a good number of regionals do. And there's usually a good amount of peopl...

Where would you add new or additional stops? For my neck of the woods, OTOH I'd consider Greenwich and South Norwalk, CT. South Norwalk was a regular stop (along with Stamford and Bridgeport) for the New Haven's thru trains between Boston and New York, so I could see that as a possibility. Greenwic...

Re: Number of tracks

So how many tracks run between Bridgeport and New Haven? With increased SLE service are not four tracks needed in this area? There are 4 tracks, Bridgeport to New Haven EXCEPT between Woodmont (CP 266) and the east end of Devon (CP 261) where there are 3 tracks. A 3 track right of way probably has ...

So, if there's a surplus of funds, then why the SLE cuts? Anyways... (1) Restore SLE to full service, including the express trains to (at least) Stamford. (2) Hartford Line: (a) Double track from Windsor Locks to Enfield (b) Extend passenger double-track from W Hartford to (closer to ) Hartford (c) ...

Unfortunately, we have to study everything to death to realize that we need a station, then spend 5 years to design said station, then put it out to bid, then give it another 2+ years for construction. Oh, how I long for the days when SLE service began. It was rag-tag, yes, with practically gravel p...

It is my understanding that Empire Service corridor trains (NYP-ALB/Niagara Falls) all utilize a dinette/club car. The club section with its 2-1 seating is used as business class. The cafe is only open on those trains that continue beyond Albany. The other part of the car has the table seating.

The Springfield Line is indeed owned by Amtrak, and so its considered a branch off the NEC. Its dispatched from Boston alongside the dispatching for the mainline NEC from New Haven to Boston. Even more so it being a branch with several 400-series trains which connect directly to/from mainline trains...

That is a great trail (but very busy). I've done it up to Canton/end of off-road portion, and the entire Canal Line, but haven't "closed the loop". It's too bad the bridge over the Farmington River is no more, as that truss would have allowed the trail to continue on its route to New Hartf...

I rode from Willimantic to Pomfret a couple years ago and from Pomfret to Putnam and Putnam to Thompson last year. It is such a great trail and is a lot more quiet than the section west/southwest of Willimantic. The section from Pomfret to Putnam was a little rugged in spots, but with nice rebuilt b...

They look, interiorwise, very similar to the Amfleet I, it appears. No electronic display (EXIT/RESTROOMS THIS END). Lighting pattern is different. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon_%28railcar%29#/media/File:Amtrak_Horizon_Interior.jpg Several years ago, we had one on the Vermonter in the winter...

Anyone have any idea why the northbound Adirondack, which resumed service to Montreal today, departed NYP nearly six hours late? https://asm.transitdocs.com/train/2023/09/11/A/69 I saw something on FB earlier saying there were problems with the drawbridge at Spuyten Duyvil. Trains in the Am were be...

Some additional track-work (for the 2nd rail) has been started just south of the Ballardvale Station. They are also starting track-work on the northside. If there is interest I'll submit pics. Anyone aware if the T is serious of completing this section this season? It was my understanding that the ...

Memorial Day 2023 I took advantage of the combo ticket to do a MNR/LIRR circle trip (in conjunction with ConnDOT/SLE and Cross Sound Ferry). I got a combo ticket from New Haven to Montauk. By the time I got on my train at Montauk (after changing at GCM and Jamaica), the ticket had expired, but I tol...
