Hey all, I'm looking for a little help with these ex-C&NW units. Trying to build models of them, but I desperately need at least one good photo of the roof area where the dynamic brake fan would have been. The good folks at North Western made some homebuilt mod in this area, but for obvious reas...

First, Phoenix really has only two railroads--UP and BNSF. Second, Phoenix is a dead-end branch for both roads--no through traffic at all! From what I've seen flying in and out, there's quite a bit of local industry if you want to chase yard jobs, plus there's still the depot downtown if you want to...

I'm suffering abject brain failure regarding large parts of MRL's history, but it's always been part of Washington Industries. Owned by Dennis Washington, the firm started out as a construction contractor, and also owns CEECO, which paints (rebuilds?) locos, and eventually bought the carcass of Morr...

Scotty, It's my understanding that the smooth-side cars are under some of the same rules that required Metra to hang on to two F40Cs--namely, involving federal MTA dollars. VRE, MARC, and STAR can pick them up for something like $1 a car (although it sounds like FRE bought theirs from a 3rd party), ...

My recollection was that the only parts of the Great Western that the North Western wanted were the line to KC and some of the terminal traffic in Minneapolis (Roseport Industrial Sub). And yes, traffic tapered off mightily once the Spine Line was available.

Yeah, but wait 'till you work in government, and you meet people who've never worked a day of their life in the private sector!

Um, ah, er, well.... ...It means, uh, "!@#$ing rail nut." ...but don't tell your mother (or Otto) that you heard it here... With most railroaders it's okay to like railroading, but if you're just a "train nut," you'll be seen as about as rational as a typical Packers fan in Lambe...

I'm normally one to keep my mouth shut, but I'll interject here to go back to the original question. I've got some "been-there, done-that" perspective on getting into Class I management. I've also worked in a few other industries before and since, so I know how business is done in a few pl...
