Re: A question from a SEPTA noob

Was there ever an R4? I also wondered the same, and Wikipedia offered an explanation that was acceptable to me (taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEPTA_Regional_Rail#Original_route_numbering_plan ): Original route numbering plan The original Regional Rail plan with R1 to R7Regional Rail lines...

I also rode the MFL westbound to 30th Street on Friday, but didn't notice anything noteworthy on the ride. But then again, I was preoccupied in the middle of it with a phone call (sometimes I love having the signal, other times I hate it, as it was one of those other times on Friday). I'll do it aga...

Typical. Last time I took a weekend trip, I missed the 30th St. Station ticket window by 5 mins. At least this will alleviate that problem.

The expresses usually serve commuters leaving Center City. I think I've only seen one or two people boarding the outbound expresses at Forest Hills or Trevose once or twice. If they sit down in your car, expect a conductor coming by. Anyway, I do use both the Airport and the Trenton lines since I tr...

The RR cars might not be too far off. I noticed that they are putting ads on the ceiling now. It's great to be looking at a fun Hershey Park ad when falling asleep on an afternoon local.

Observations: Little Red Railcar and Somerton Station

On my way home yesterday, I noticed two things that I constantly see every day and keep forgetting to ask about here. 1. On one of the stub tracks at Suburban Station, there is a red railcar with SEPTA's callsign painted on the side along with an american flag. Why is it there, what is it used for, ...

Thank you very much, Matt. If it was indeed a battery that was providing power to the emergency and safety systems, it must be a pretty powerful battery. I don't get to see Amtrak trains often, nor do I ride them (I've only ridden the Acela once on the company's dollar). Besides, I would assume that...

Don't praise the fare system yet. The contactless cards are insecure and can be cloned by a remote attacker with a laptop and an antenna. Also, with stored value you can't hoarde rides in advance of a fare increase. The paper tickets are no help as they expire in 3 days. This makes getting 2-ride p...

Train 4007 on 5/6/08

Hello. I'm a new member to this forum, even though I have been frequenting it out of plain curiousity for the past month or so. Anyway, I have a question. This morning, I took train 4007 on the West Trenton line into work. I noticed while waiting on the platform that it was running a bit late. What ...
