Re: OMNY

At Jamaica, elevators, etc. are only on the east end and often break down. If you are handicapped, transfers range from hard to impossible. In diesel country, it's not practical to go to GCT LIRR. Penn might get one or two direct rush hour direct trains. And in general, out here we've learned not t...

On the LIRR, does anyone check to see that you have an activated ticket before boarding? Very little experience on the LIRR, but I've used the mTicket on the MBTA commuter rail, and sure, they tell you over and over again that you MUST activate before boarding. But unless there's a rare platform ch...

Twenty-Trip Ticket Elimination and Other MTA Mistakes

So the cat's out of the bag so to speak. With yesterday's Newsday's front-page headline, the MTA's attempt to quietly eliminate the 20-Trip ticket is now exposed for all to see. MTA thought if they didn't advertise it maybe no one would notice? I can't believe they're that ignorant. The MTA/LIRR has...

Hmmm............wouldn't an error like that be discovered in the course of testing after the work was done?

Jamaica Derailment

Good to know there were not many injuries, as it could have been much worse. Does anyone have any inside info on a possible cause? I assume that a track defect such as a broken rail is the most likely cause. But maybe a wheel or axle defect is another possibility?

If I'm not mistaken, all the new underpasses have 14 foot clearance so virtually all commercial trucks should make it. I think I once saw a tractor-trailer go under School St. without a problem.

Interface76, both of the street crossings in Westbury were totally eliminated. Both
Urban Ave. and School St. are now underpasses where vehicle traffic and pedestrians go under the tracks. There aren't any other crossings in Westbury.

And (LOL) if and when the FRA eventually allows these electronic devices in the cab, the M3's may be all but gone from the LIRR and the time, effort and money spent to install those tables will have been wasted, no?

There was some discussion about this a while back. I think they might have said it's for an electronic device such as a tablet, that might eventually be used for train orders, etc. Someone who works there will have to explain more fully.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt it given the frigged up world we're living in today. Surprisingly though, I rode the WTC-Newark line last week and on the eastbound train the conductor was back to riding the old positions in the first and second cars. Might have been because we picked up and dropped off sever...

PATH currently have an additional 72 PA-5 on order. How many A cars and how many B cars? According to https://www.nyctransitforums.com/topic/42593-the-official-path-thread/page/3/#comments the new cars will all be C cars (no cab). I incorrectly called them B cars in the original post. I assume they...

Excellent point. I thought virtually all railroad equipment was designed to fail-safe into its most restrictive mode. At least that's the way signals are designed.

Do westbound Hempstead trains at Floral Park still load on Plat-B, on the traditional Hemp. Track-1 or is all Hempstead service in both directions now done on the south most track to avoid conflict with Mainline trains?

I've long been puzzled about the cars being delivered in such random numerical order. Does anyone know why they are not delivered in consecutive numerical sequence? Years ago the M7's were not delivered consecutively either but there was a more orderly progression thru the numbers than with the M9's.

FRA and LIRR management might be right. Earlier today, the people in my doctor's office could not find any record in their computer system of two messages I had left for the doctor in recent weeks. So there you are. For better or for worse everything in life seems to be gradually transitioning to el...
