You might try the New Hope & Ivyland RR. It once was part of the Reading Railroad. Now it's a tourist hauler in Bucks County. They have an eclectic mix of steam and diesel equipment. You can find more info on their website.

Is Septa reinstalling the wye at Jenkintown? I've seen a lot of work on the former right of way along the SPS factory. It would make sense to have an alternative to the Zoo and make it easier to make CSX moves from the West Trenton line to the former main. Anyone hear anything?

As built the Septa SL V cars were designed and (the first six cars) equipped with sanders. Some wonk decided to have them removed stating that inspecting and filling them every day would be an undo burden on shop and field personnel verses the supposed benefit. All Budd built CTA el cars were equipp...

The entire pantograph is electrically conductive which is why it is insulated from the roof. There is a large cable which goes to the main transformer, some times through a vacuum breaker. The cable itself is double insulated and protected inside an outer shield ala a coaxial cable. It is housed ins...

Old, tired, second hand locos for RRD vs brand new state of the art...... If this -rumor- is true then .. i don't even know. Nothing i have read or heard anywhere has suggested this to be the plan. I'm done using logic when it comes to SEPTA fleet management. -rage quit- ;) The AEM-7AC's were reman...

main reason Red Lions plant went belly up was, after Baltimore, LIRR and MN M-3's and Florida cars there just was no contracts. no passenger cars were build other than the Viewliner sleepers, which Amtrak had threatened to take elsewhere...... Budd was stuck with lot of employees and no work... The...

RedLion went 'belly-up' because management wanted drastic pay cuts from union employees and tried to blackmail us by refusing to bid on jobs. When asked if management was matching our pay cuts they laughed and said no. Thyssen wanted an 'in' to the US market and bought the Budd Co. to that end. The ...

The SL-IVs use air valves to uncouple (Barksdale valves), the SL-Vs have magnet valves to activate the air cylinder/lock block. Main reservior air is piped to the U/C cylinders on both couplers through small ports on the B/P (lower) poppet. T Pictures from roberts shop 014.jpg he electric head has a...

There's a similar debate going on in the three rail world between MTH's DSC and Lionel's Legacy and TMCC control system. I have a few MTH engines with Proto Sound and few with just a horn/whistle. While I like 'all the bells and whistles' it can get loud to the point of being annoying with several t...
