Just came across this old video of a 1963 CERA fantrip on the South Shore.

I went last year CHI-NOL and back via Roomette on my vacation. Overall it's a pretty uneventful trip with the CONO travelling overnight through Kentucky and Tennessee both ways. The train arrived in NOUPT almost an hour early, and on the trip back we got into CHI about a half hour early.
The Indiana Toll Road wanted to build an interchange at Broadway and the old station was simply in the way.
This is the first dewirement incident I have heard of since the new catenary was installed a few years ago.
Would be a great reason to restore the old cars in Chesterton that have been sitting derelict at an abandoned restaurant downtown.
Doubtful because unless I'm mistaken PC continued to use Union Station downtown; No idea when service was switched to Bendix, I assume it was on/after A-Day in 1971.
Actually the Bendix station went in service in July, 1970; so that makes it twenty-TWO years, but who's counting?
I vote for the power strip idea, as I bring one myself... everyone wins!
I have always parked south of the CSX tracks right by the road crossing there and have never had a problem.
I may be missing something, but I have mentally gone over many concepts of a terrorist attack against a train and/or railroad, none of which seem to serve any practical purpose, even where passenger service in concerned... 1) You simply can't steer a train into a building; 2) There are no guaranteed...
This is an unfortunate situation where, thanks to society, there is NO winning move.
I'm not surprised by this. The railroad sees this as the least costly alignment, since it doesn't require a complete rebuilding of the Shops yard like the southern alignment would have needed.
It was confirmed today that two occupants were caught in their car under the overpass and were crushed.
If a freight crew is switching at Olive, do they still have manual control of the switches or do they now need the dispatcher to line them up for them?
