Re: Hiring Question

Have you looked at some smaller roads? Often times shortlines are willing to hire on someone that the Class 1's don't select for whatever reason. There is also usually some flexibility in moving between crafts, so if you don't like train service, you can switch to MoW or Mechanical, or vise versa. T...

Interesting, thanks for the answer, it clears a few things up for me and gives me a place to start for a little more digging. While talking with some of the older MoW guys at work they mentioned getting a line-up for the day before heading out on patrol, but never really talked about more than that....

I have a question for those of you who have worked with TT&TO. How, or indeed did, the dispatcher provide protection for maintenance activities? Today's rules allow for various methods of protection depending on the level of disturbance of the track structure, including track warrants, Form B's ...

I had a chance to ride into/out of ALB today, so finally got to see how things are progressing on the double tracking and reconfiguration work. There were work crews working pretty much from Schenectady to Rensselaer. At the station, there was a steady stream of trucks bringing in ties (6 in the 1 1...

They are still around. I'm don't know when or where they will go.

The VTR 432 (ex FEC SD70M-2 for those not aware) is in the process of making her maiden voyage on new home rails, leading westbound on the 264 job to Whitehall tonight. No pics, I just caught her heading out of town as I headed out of the dispatchers office to go home. Should look pretty good in red...

CBTC stands for Communications Based Train Control, or PTC for dark territory. I have only heard of systems that "talk" between the field and the base, due to the vastly increased level of complexity introduced by having field to field comm that must also be mirrored to the base in an effo...

Time to bring this one back from the dead! Tie installation has begun on this years segments, starting from MP 77 (Just north of the old Leicester Jct) and heading south. We should be seeing the welded rail train soon, and the rail gang is supposed to be arriving before the end of Sept. If you look ...

Damn! (is there a more specific page than that link, a lot there to sift through). It is located in the Sept. 1st board minutes, Item 9. Interestingly, there is also quite a lot of discussion about the Dual-Mode replacements, and a field trip the technical review committee took to Albany to view th...

From the STB notice, it looked like there would be a total of 2 covered service (aka Railroad Retirement) positions open for CCR employees to apply for, any remaining positions offered would be under Social Security. I'm not sure how many folks were actually employed before the buyout, but if it wer...

I guess this is more about Burlington in general but does the Vermont railway ever run freights north of their Burlington rail yard? The tracks next to Burlington Union Station seemed like they don't see many trains at all. The VRS property stops at the College Street Crossing. Every once in a grea...

This outfit is really being childish over losing traffic, to Pan Am no less. Indeed. First reported by Eastern Rail News in March - NECR made official it's intentions to buy the Claremont-Concord yesterday. This is part of the fallout of their recent battle with PAS. They want to lock up this traff...

Currently they just use the interchange track adjacent to the park, a lot easier than the Vorheesville move. Can't say if they have used it in the past, I'll have to ask.

Although I am too young to have operated or dispatched under TT&TO (I'm 36), I have had the opportunity to dispatch TWC territory without the aid of computers and all the fancy gizmos they have. It was challenging, but in a very good way. Almost fun actually. You definitely have to be focused on...
