Re: Lehigh Line derailment

by AndyB ¦  Mon Dec 11, 2017 1:19 pm ¦  Forum: New Jersey Railfan ¦  Topic: Lehigh Line derailment ¦  Replies: 7 ¦  Views: 4291

News radio reports that derailment has been cleared up and New Jersey Transit service restored for morning rush.
Since a major freight line NS and CSX there had to be some interesting rerouting of trains around it.
Any comments on routes?

Do not see this as an Amtrak project. Way too much politics in federal undertakings. Now New jersey Transit on the other hand. There, there are possibilities. Extend Raritan Valley line from High Bridge. Add stops in Hampton/Glen Gardner, Bloomsbury, a Park and Ride Rt. 78/ Alpha (the only station t...

Ever wonder why there is such a long walk from the HBLR's "Hoboken" Terminal into Hoboken Terminal? An interesting fact and you will need a very good map of Hoboken to see this. HBLR's Hoboken Terminal and the 2nd, Street and 9th. Street stations are not in Hoboken. What???? They are in Je...

For what has been spent on the monorail, first to build it and then to rebuild it. PATH could have, should have been into the airport already. I still stand by my statement! Go to anyone of the map programs that will give an aerial view and search McCarter Highway at South St. Newark, NJ. This is e...

Even though some areas of HBLR trackage in the street running area are zone off by low curbs the tracks are in the street, public streets and are not considered to be private right of way. I doubt a charge of trespassing could be enforced. But, not crossing at the crosswalk is jaywalking.

JS, I found the map I was referring to. It is from 1872. It is listed as Hudson County but covers Union and Essex Counties also. Just one of the curve balls researching will throw at you. I have to agree, the ROW you point out west of Vaux Hall Rd. is the same as on this 1872 map. Though the streets...

JS Are you referring to the ROW as the two unidentified lines parallel and just west of Vaux Hall Rd. and running almost down to Burnett Ave? Very interesting! I'll have to go back to the Rutgers maps again. One of them showed the proposed NJW ROW going around the north side of Summit, then using th...

Right now PATH storage yard tracks extend to South St. in Newark. This is almost 4,000 feet south of Newark Penn Station. It is also a little more than a third of the way to the Newark Airport Station. Search McCarter Highway and South St. at MapQuest or Google Maps to view area. ROW acquisition? Le...

Another map at Rutgers worth taking a look at is this one. http://mapmaker.rutgers.edu/HudsonCoAtlas/P9/index.html It shows the proposed New Jersey West from Newark through Millburn, Summit, New Providence, Liberty Corner, on to White House. What is interesting, It kind of follows the route of Rt.78...
