Not much for daylight action around Massena - it's definitely a night railroad. Your best bet would be catching a northbound Q621 coming into town in the late afternoon/evening, or a northbound Q192 running early (not due into Massena until the evening, but often runs hours ahead of schedule). Every...
Coal trains on CSX still go to Ravena, NY, Kodak in Rochester, Somerset, and perhaps still to Kenmore and/or Dunkirk as well (not qualified out west). NS trains still go to Bow, NH, and Ludlowville, NY. They're definitely not nearly as common as they once were, but they still run occasionally.

What RR's interchanged at Phelps Junction? Back in that day at least... New York Central "Auburn Road" and the PRR Elmira branch. Today the FGLK runs over the NYC, and a tiny spur still exists from Phelps Junction south on the old PRR, to serve a customer. Scot Phelps Jct. used to be prot...
With it or without it, there's no competition, it would connect to Conrail at both ends. Even if you presume everything else happens the same, a Finger Lakes connection in 1995 leads only to Conrail. Only when Conrail is split up does a Finger Lakes connection allow for potential interchange to CSX...
there are no news reports to be found on line of any derailments and not a single person that I know has told me of such an accident happening. I can at least confirm that it did happen. Westbound GS2 just east of the Seneca Falls industrial park. Can probably see the scene from the side of 5&20.
well now we are talking about two different things! ;) I never said 6-axle units can run literally everywhere on FGLK! I only said they do fine across the entire mainline..which is true. That would be false. They are prohibited via General Order on the Himrod Line main track outside of Himrod Yard ...
which is funny, considering that 3303 was the "photoshop engine" that wasn't actually photoshopped! ;) http://awesomegifs.com/wp-content/uploads/dead-horse.gif except no, not at all. especially considering my post was the first and only time the photoshop engine has ever been mentioned in...

Also, there was work happening at 395, and new masts are laying on the ground at 398 (right at the old School Road crossing)... Progress is swift!
The groups definitely vary in quality. The history-oriented ones seem much better IMO since they draw a mature audience by nature, as well as strong admins. The ones revolving around current sightings on various lines, which tend to draw a younger audience, are usually (but not always) the ones fill...
Patience. It took me six years until I was given a job offer. Don't get discoraged when you are not selected, but do not limit yourself to just this job opportunity Iconian summed it up well. It may take a while, and it may not be the exact opportunity you want, but you'll get your foot in the door...
Could be they're getting a few horsepower hours out of it. Has happened before. FWIW, these SD38-2s may be de-turboed SD40-2's, I've done some searching but so far no leads as to heritage on these engines. Billing issues have been the culprit on this one -- hopefully it'll be on FGLK property by th...
