Re: Newark Airport Air Train to be replaced

PATH extension to the airport will never replace the monorail. PATH might be extended, but you'll stil have to have a transfer to the monorail or its successor, but if the topic of the discussion is a replacement for the monorail, PATH will never be it. The reason for that is very, very simple. Any ...

I've seen it more than once, when there is a breakdown, and nobody knows when the train is going to go, passengers jump in their cars in search of other ways to travel. As soon as they leave, the dead train come to life, and takes off. Not merely the dead train, the whole railroad too. A few years ...

This is cold, hard, political calculus. But if you think that this would not've happened if the Democrats were currently running the House and the Senate, you'll be very, very disappointed. This may come as a shock to some, but New Jersey is a deep-blue state. I can't see anything in the foreseeable...

Between Christmas and New Year's, Metropark's garage should have plenty of parking spaces. Metropark station is easy to access from I-95, via a short sprint on the Garden State Parkway. If you time the schedule right, you could catch one of the trains that skips all the local stops, so the total tra...

I do not remember the exact timeframe, but it was somewhere in the 1990s -- there used to be "diesel express"es that indeed operated on the NEC line into Hoboken.

You might want to revisit that Gawker story. Because, over the course of the day, Gawker was forced to eat a bit of a humble pie, and correct their story. It seems they, ...er, over-sensationalized things bit. Yes, yes, I know. Gawker? Over-sensitionalize something? No way... Another passenger who w...

My brain is tired. Where is fb?
It's a web site where America's future leaders post out-of-focus pictures of themselves getting drunk, and vomiting all over each other.

Haven't been through that area recently, but doesn't the Linden yard have the catenary strung up on only two of its tracks? Also, as I recall, the cat wire trails off a short distance into the yard, on both of the wired tracks -- no more than a few hundred feet in, and only comes back a few hundred ...

This is probably going to be the most stupid thing posted all year, but, eh, it's been a long day, and I have nothing better to do than to post dumb stuff on the interwebs. But let's say the phase change separator, or whatever they call the non-conductive (fiberglass?) rod that divides both sides of...

One way to partially finance the new and improved Penn Station--and portions of the Gateway Project--, such as Penn Station South, are through Passenger Facility Charges. Are the majority of people supportive of this or against it? Sure. Let's run the numbers. How much of a Passenger Facility Charg...

In the last five years, we have been through the second worst recession to ever hit the United States. If we DIDN'T borrow, than we would have had a HIGHER unemployment rate than we currently have today. What is your evidence for this proposition? Here's an eye-opening chart for you, straight from ...

But more borrowing--especially with times of high unemployment--might actually help grow the economy... In the last five years we borrowed, and went into debt by another seven trillion dollars ( http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo5.htm , and we're up to 17 trillion...

But borrowing money to improve this vital transportation artery is putting money to good use. It will be dividends for several generations!! Can you explain exactly what dividends, and how much of them, you expect to receive as a result of spending, well, I don't know, maybe five billion dollars fo...

Having briefly skimmed through the PDF, there seems to be an elephant in the room that the PDF does its best to avoid. Two elephants, actually: 1. How much that pie in the sky is going to cost 2. Who's going to pay for it ARC went down in flames for precisely these reasons. Just in case someone hasn...
