When they transport the Engine attached to an other engine like that, is it just freight or are they actually using the engine as power?
They're totally shut down when being shipped.

“Body Found in Methuen Woods: Police” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.necn.com/news/new-england/Body-Found-in-Methuen-Woods-558222071.html%3famp=y Knowing that plenty of New England rail trails go through somewhat dangerous, run down industrialized areas (shocker), is this a recurring theme? And i...

Re: Equipment shortages & cancellations

Is it inspection time again? Lot of short trains the past week or so, Worcester's 9-car train has been reduced to 8 cars, two of the four 8-car sets running with 7 cars, etc. Needham train 617 was 4 cars tonight, so yeah, there definitely appears to be a shortage again. On the positive side for me,...

Re: 2019 Commuter Rail Delay Thread

Providence train 831 caught fire today at Canton Junction (HSP46 #2031). Delays in both directions while the fire department is on the scene. It looks like a turbo failure. Re: Boston Surface Railroad: Worcester-Providence Commuter Rail

could someone explain what this means?? not sure what happened TIA The business was dissolved by the state or by a court for reasons not yet public. These reasons could include insolvency, but I notice that they've not filed annual reports, something required by Massachusetts to be done annually, s...

Here's a good high resolution photo which shows the use of guard rails on the inside: https://s3.amazonaws.com/fhl-website/content/uploads/2018/07/24203750/8_History_Photos.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This one has both a guard rail and a third rail: https://s3.amazonaws.com/fh...

Sorry, you’re wrong. The error is generated by the web server itself, not a browser. I see it regardless of the browser I use. I didn’t even try Firefox.

Re: Tracks north of New Hope

Hello all, I was just recently in New Hope for the first time, and I noticed that the tracks continue along the Delaware north of New Hope. A quick Google Maps visit confirmed this. Where did these tracks go? What railroad were they owned by? I assume that the RDG stopped at New Hope, so could it b...

Re: New Coaches to replace all existing single active coache

The MLVs also have much lower seating capacity. The highest capacity MLV seats 142, while MBTA's cars seat between 179-185. The single level Bombardier CTC-1B (600 series) coaches seat 122, so the MLV wouldn't add much capacity if MBTA went with them.

It's likely because if you don't pay for a Flickr subscription, you're limited to 1000 photos total.

Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

The Orange Line extension to Roslindale/West Roxbury/wherever it ends up would diverge at Forest Hills and follow the route of the Needham Line. This extension would not affect the existing Amtrak/MBTA Providence Line tracks in any way, so it would make no sense to cover anything.

Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

The tracks would need to be sunk further through the Southwest Corridor as the catenary infrastructure is not fully below ground level. Of course once you get past Forest Hills the tracks are not below ground whatsoever. Costs would be astronomical and the train traffic disruptions would be massive,...

Re: F40PH-2C/F40PHM-2C overhaul program

I’m curious.. will these rebuilds be able to handle the larger 8 or 9 car sets that the HSP46s can? I'm not 100% sure but I think the F40PH-3C specifications will be upgraded to the same specs as the HSP's. Someone with more detailed info please fill me in because I can't find the information anywh...
