To get back on topic: Scheduled improvements are: 1. Rework of the platform to include new raised warning area at your feet (yellow bumps). Not sure if it means new concrete or a resurface of some type. 2. New ramp to station, current one is too steep. 3. Parking lot resurface. 4. New Ticket counter...

Yup...took a while but it got there. We climbed slowly from 90 to 100 mph..maybe for a min..then braked for SDY.

I'll throw my .02 in and share that the dome car 10031 that was on the Adirondack last year was clocked doing 100mph between Albany and SDY. I had a GPS out as did another guy.

Not sure about the 4th track at ALB, BUT the FRA money was awarded to NYS to build the 2nd track from ALB to SDY...since its shovel ready-ish....i'd imagine work could begin as early as this summer.

So all the westbound NF trains wye at CP69? That's interesting to know. The only other time I rode the line was on 64 from Toronto. I Google Earthed the line from roughly Frontier yard to north of Exchange St. The track into and out of the Exchange St station (or platform) does seem to be slightly ...

I belive that is the standard practice. There is no place to turn train in NF so they pull past the "wye" and then back it into the station. Then the train is good to go for its next run...it just pulls out and heads south to Buffalo.

I could be crazy...but I think I saw two F40's in NJT colors on the Norfolk/Southern Line near Buffalo, NY. Actually, it was south of buffalo at the lake ave crossing in Blasdell.

Am I seeing things?

Yes and know. You need to talk in terms of average speed. The figures you quote above are an 11mph increase...but you're already starting at 79mph. If you were traveling 1mph for 200 miles, it would take 200hours. Travel 11mph and it would take 18hours, a savings of 182 hours, just by going a lousy ...

Well IIRC, much of it is operated at 79mph. Sure...I think that there are a few spots that are taken slower than 79mph for curves, but mostly, its full speed running. I think I know where you might be going with this that slower than 79mph turns will be no faster with a higher permitted track speed....

I was hoping so. I thought the CSX mainline from Buffalo to near SDY (before it becomes under amtrak control) was Class V. At least many years ago. See Page 8 of this crash investigation: http://www.ntsb.gov/Publictn/1996/RAR9602.pdf So...all CSX bashing aside...anyone know if they've downgraded the...
