With reading one of the other topics about Marvel Industries in Mamaroneck. I was wondering what current freight customers exist on metro north lines. As previously mentioned, Marvel (New Haven line) is still receiving covered hopper cars. Appears to be maybe 1 to 2 cars a week. I believe the lumber yard in New Hamberg (Hudson Line) is still receiving cars, however they are now being dropped off / picked up by the northbound CSX road freight. CSX is still using its Croton yard (even though it has been downsized several of the tracks) but that has been reduced to interchange for Metro North, setting out a bad car or laying over a road train if it misses its morning window to Oak Point. Was curious if there was any other current customers???

When was Ring's End in Bethel last active? The siding and switch are in good condition. Google Earth shows
a centerbeam in April 2016.

Sperry (further north at Shelter Rock Road) also was active with its railcar fleet until moving to Shelton in 2018.

They stopped getting cars a VERY long time ago. The switch leading to the main will always be kept in good condition because its part of the main line. It either has to be kept in good condition or removed.

Thank you Greg....
Like Rings End I feel that quite a few customers have left in the last 10-15 years... I remember catching the local out of Croton yard servicing Burnwell in Peekskill, Chelsea Lumber and then the scrap dealer just north of Poughkeepsie. Also, had been working around the Sugar factory in Yonkers lately and had the chance to see the sidings that serviced the plant. All of which had stopped under CSX around 2010... And on the harlem line Ace Endico has not used rail for at least 5 plus years. There siding is still there but is being used to store Metro North MOW equipment.... With these decreases in online customers is that why CSX several years ago combined their trash and manifest trains into just one north, one south. Has the traffic decreased that much in the last 10-15 years not to warrant two trains... And with that said, is the traffic to Hunts point and rail traffic to long island up or down in the last few years....

As for CSX freights from Long Island, waste traffic is up since DSNY is now preferring to have waste by rail as
opposed to trailers to Pennsylvania landfills. Nassau and Suffolk counties in addition to Brooklyn and Queens
also send out waste as well.
