Great pictures from what is now a memory! I remember riding the Point Pleasant Railroad sometime in the 1980's with my wife. I always wanted to ride it when I was a kid, but my parent's always made an excuse and I never got to go. I'm happy to have ridden it when I had the chance for it is gone and now only exsists in these pictures.
I wonder what ever became of the tracks and equipment after the ride was torn up. Did it move to another location? Did someone else buy the railroad and move it?
I believe the sand railroad's former location in Point Pleasant is now occupied by the Sky Ride that's next to the boardwalk. Too bad this great little railroad isn't around today so that many of today's youth could enjoy.

Everything is in a storage facility, but it's not likely the track and train will ever be back in operation. The end came when locomotive parts were no longer available.

For a long time now Jenkinson's has had a very attractive ( bigger gauge ) train within the thrill ride/kiddie area of the boardwalk for which the power is a sharp-looking imitation steam engine with a nice toot-toot whistle. Realistic grade crossings, modern/working cross-bucks with bells and pulcing red warning lights plus a wooden canopied station ( that looks very much like the old one on the beach ) add to the experience.

The Beach Train was great for 55+ years with it's E8/E9 looking power, sidewalk access 'grade crossings', loop track and the 'yard' at the inlet end. I rode it dozens of times as a youngster in the 50's thru the 80's with my own kids.

BTW, I believe the basic station survives today just across from the aquarium....bathrooms now I think.

You are correct. The structure houses storage lockers as well as the bathrooms. My parents didn't take either myself or my brother on the beach train when we were growing up, but I do remember how it looked in the early spring after the winter. They were always digging the tracks back out from the sand.

My friends and I also like to take the train from Point Pleasant Beach into New York City in late 70's early 80's.Was it Penn Central then? I can't remember.

There is no sky ride at point pleasant, someones getting sleezeside mixed up with the nicer boardwalk here...

I used to love riding that beach train when i was a kid! my parents wouldnt bring me on it till i got a little older but it became part of the daily boardwalk ritual. We would usually save it for the last thing to do since it was really cool to do at night. Unfortunatly when it derailed at night shoving back to the first loop that wasnt always fun.

Sorry about the mistake! You guys are absolutely right about there not being a Sky Ride in Point Pleasant. I did get it mixed up with Seaside Heights. Trainbuff109

Actually, the train was removed because the owner didn't have the tiome to keep up on its maintenance and operation.

I actually ran the train for 4 years while in college in the mid-80's.
