I am searching for any help and information on the Virginia and Maryland Locomotive Roster. I know they had a stable of ex LI C420's and an assortment of RS-1's. I also understand they had a variety of #'ed and re#'ed T6's, a possible RS32 and maybe others. Does anyone know of any comprehensive site to get a clear understanding of what motive power they had? I appreciate the help.

I may be wrong, but I believe the RS32 and T-6's are a part of the Arkansas & Missouri's roster.....

One of the C-420s, 202, went to NYS&W and became their 2002, later 260, later 2010. Now I believe it's on Buffalo Southern as their 2010. This was originally LIRR 221. It operated a while on NYS&W in the V&M paint before it got the yellow jacket paint.

I remember seeing another high-hood C-420 with the V&M paint in Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore back around 1990. Word was it somehow fell off the carfloat and got submerged in the Bay. It looked very corroded. Too bad it wasn't a U-boat.

I checked my files and have photos of the following:

V&M RS1 #20...appears to be in the same paint as #1 ( green and yellow)

V&M RS1 # 21..ex SOO..I assume ex #350.

It appears that both of these units ran on the V&M for at least a short period of time.

Thanks

I can say the 21 (later PVRX 21) was on the VA&MD. I would guess the 20 was as well, but I have never seen it listed or photo of it there.

Should also point out that RS1s 20,22; T6s 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 all went to the A&M as well in 1999. But you probably knew that.

The RS-1 #22 was the first engine on the VA & MD, and was used for a short time there, until the LIRR #200 arrived to take its place. #22 then went to the MD & DE and did not return to VA.

The Soo #351 also served on the VA & MD, but only until LIRR #213 and 221 had been delivered, then it, too, went to the MD & DE.

I believe the 22 was then the oldest operating RS-1 and was always subject to extra "TLC". It is now in the colection of the Museum of Transport.

:-D Hello:
I don't know much about DEs , but thought this outfit had several
Whitcombs and export model ex-GI locos from ALCO or GE when I saw
them after Pennsy sold out. Is that wrong?
Thanks, PJB

There are two Military RS-1s (or MRS-1s) that were stored somewhere around Exley for many years. They are now stored at Cape Charles (2085) and Little Creek (2090), Va. To the best of my knowledge they were never part of the MDDE/VAMD operation.

I know of no Whitcombs other than the two that the Chesapeake RR used in the ?90s? that came from the Beaufort & Morehead.
