Here's 9586 and 9587 at the NYTM, on temporary display for the 50th anniversary of the World's Fair. They'll return to their home line (the 7) on June 8 in their first official passenger run as part of the museum fleet. Delivered 12/1963, refurbished April 2014

Wow those are awesome. My favorite has got to be the one with the turquoise, Is that the original paint? How did it survive this long like that?

I wouldn't call myself a foamer but I can't tell you how many times Ive tried to fight back the urge to take out an allen key and reset the 7 line rollsign to that of a 2 train. It's so hard not to but I've resisted the urge (Thus far)

I consider vandalism as: scratchitti (I mean who cares about the weird garbage etched into the windows), graffiti (This drives me FREAKING INSANE), destruction of train (WHY???) and playing with the god damn doors

The turquoise livery is the original World's Fair "Blue Arrow", which is what 9306 appears in. The R33/R36s on the 7 had this until the mid 1970s when some cars got the MTA silver/blue treatment and others lasting into the 1980s. See 9325 at the St. Louis Car assembly plant in September 1963, original press photo.

I set the rollsigns on the R-17 at Branford to the original IRT routing once - but that doesn't annoy the ever loving crap out of people like it does on nostalgia trains

Changing a rollsign to: 1 Bway Local 242 Street/Van cortlandt Park to South Ferry (for example) is a good thing

But when ppl change it to this (i really saw this-it was a D train): S Special Broad Street , then theres something wrong

The NYTM locks their rollsigns anyway so you can't turn them

TO THE ROCKAWAYS BY RAIL

Take a trip back in time to the Rockaways in this rare opportunity to ride on the Museum’s post-war fleet of cars. The ride will end at Rockaway Park, and from there you can soak in some sun and take a swim at the beach. At 4:30 pm passengers can board the train to travel back along the A line.

Are they running the TOMC or are they running another set that I don't know about? The only post-war nostalgia sets I know of is the TOMC.

to answer all of tjensen's questions at once:

9306 was retired to the Transit Museum at an early age in 1976. She never got repainted or rebuilt. However, other cars could just as easily be restored to the look with a few hours in a paint booth. That's what happened with the rest of the train, hence the "Many Colors" bit.

One trip this year will be run with the BMT SMEE fleet from what rumors have said, so to say the TOMC is the only post war museum train is no longer correct.
