It looks like at least some of the cars from Utah are now in service - I spotted 7811 today on the 12:35 UP north line train out of downtown with a fresh coat of platinum mist with blue and orange stripes. Any sightings of other coaches yet? Also, it appears all 5 ex-VRE coaches (7825, 7836, 7838, 7840, 7848) are now on UP, unless any have moved off in the past month or two.

Elaborating from the other thread...

Something like fifty of the old CB&Q Budds made it to Michigan in private ownership, 23 or 24 of them were refurbished for the attempted commuter service. A few others might have been stripped down pretty far, like this one that looks like it got damaged in switching:

They were also using these cars for the Owosso steam excursions.

I can't find much about the disposition of VRE's ex Metra Pullman and St. Louis bilevels, or if they are still using or holding any. I thought the Sumitomo cars they bought were supposed to replace them all. Ten did get sold, along with three GP40H-2 diesels, to the army which planned on using them for base to base to training site transportation, but they cancelled that:

If Metra wants them back, some of the army cars are being offered by the surplus contractor starting March 10!

Some of the other cars VRE had were older "six window" bilevels. It would be nice to see a few of those return to Metra service.

The damage shown in the picture of car 806 was not due to 'switching damage'. The car was involved in a head-on crash on June 12, 2002 in the approach to the Aurora Transportation Center. The car was retired as the frame damage made repair unfeasible.

The picture of car 806 does not show switching damage. The car was damaged in a collision outside the Aurora Transportation Center on June 12, 2002. Due to the frame damage the car was not repariable and was retired sometime the next year (March, 2003??). Car 752 was also damaged beyond repair in the same collision and was retired and possibly scrapped.
