I've noticed on the Union Pacific web site that there's not nearly as many positions open as there has been in the past, specifically track laborers in the California, Arizona area. Are they slowing down because of the economy or do they usually slow down this time of year?

It's that time of year again... Pretty much from now until next spring you can expect to see it pretty slow on the hiring boards for both the UP and the BNSF... And I would imagine most others.. It's the nature of the business...

Late February early March they'll start coming back to life again...

I've been waiting for something to pop up on the BNSF Houston board for months. I talked to my buddy out there the other day, and he says they all usually slow down this time of year. And then things will start to pick back up again in the late winter early spring..

So it looks like I'll have to wait until 2006 to try and start my new career..
