The LNE at Pine Island, NY

Hello,

Did the LNE once serve a mine at Pine Island NY? Why I raise this question is because a siding appears at the location A shown on the attached map.

Not only was there the siding you point to (http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/52865761), but the siding had two sidings: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/52865765 (not on your map) and http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/52865764 (on your map). I don't know what industries they served.

oops, I was looking at the wrong siding at the top of this thread. The LNE did service the mines up in the Pochuck Mountains near the NJ/NY border. The spurs I beleive were called the "Pochuck Branch" or "Pochuck RR"

Yes this was the Lehigh & New England's Pochunck Railroad. There was a quarry and, of all things an annual peach harvest and outbound shipment. There was an attempt to build further east and connect to the L&HR as well. Some grade work and abutments can be found.

The best reference is an article in Volume 3, Number 4 of the New Jersey Midland Railroad Historical Society's "Midlander Trainsheet" magazine. Back copies are still available:

Tim, are the grade works and abutments you mention part of the abandoned Pochuck line or are they from the proposed connection to the LHR? Would love to see/hike them if you have ay landmarks I'd be able to follow.
