Does anyone know when they last saw a steam locomotive in operation around the Detroit Metro Area?? I tought that the Detroit Salt Works, and even DTE still ran steam through the 1990's. if anyone has information on Detroit Steam, it would be appreciated. :P :P

I don't know about the Salt Works or much of anything else in Detroit, but I do know the Grand Trunk Western commuter service between Detroit and Durand was one of the last bastions of steam in the U.S., with many of the trains steam-powered as late as 1960.

Of course, there are the steamers at the Ford Museum in Dearborn.

Go over to Greenfield Village and watch a Mason Bogie, or a beautiful 4-4-0 haul passengers around the property !

Last time I saw steam on common carrier tracks was N&W's #1218, what about 15-20 years ago.
